The biggest reason nintendo is getting negative press is their own fault. They botched their E3 presentation two years in a row when they had the chance to really shine and get some good buzz going on with the press. Other than that all companies get negative press, the issue is some of you fans consider dev comments about the wiiu power etc as negative press.  They really are not. Ninty can really turn the press around with a solid showing at their own conference (this is confirmed right?)...show up and do a good showing and they are good to go for the wiiu launch. They should look back at the 3ds centric 2010 conference for some pointers. That one was very well done.

Now you make me doubt about their Fall Conference.

Really people? Is there really a reason to push down Nintendo like they're are little toddlers? Hey, they're trying something new! That's great! Isn't that what a "Next-Gen" console is truly supposed to do?

In my opinion, graphics shouldn't be the only seperating factors between Generations.

i dont hate nintendo, i actually love them... well used to. i love the nintendo 64 and its my second favorite console after the PS3 but the thing that made me stop being a fan is actually nintendo them selfs. they keep saying its all about the games yet they keep pushing out the same games over and over. nintendo's system sellers are the major Mario games, super mario bro's, mario kart, super smash bro's and zelda.... guess what these IP's have been around for about 30 years. they dont want to and probably cant make something new that would be a hit and thats why i dont like them any more. i dont wanna play the same games for ever and nothing else. and honestly when it comes to creativity i think sony has got them beat this gen (i know people will act like i just commmeneted an unforgivable sin by saying this)

Except they have made lots of new highly successful IPs this generation, as well as other generations. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean Nintendo didn't make them.

yeah the Wii sports stuff and what ever, but those games are more for the casual gamers not hardcore gamers like my self, plus they arent big budget AAA games, there isnt much risk making those games and by not taking a risk the end result isnt gonna be mind blowing. when was the last time nintendo made a game that changed the industry? mario 64?

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

I 2nd what MUGEN said, I never understood why people would see some devs saying "Wii U on par or a bit better than PS360" would be something negative, especially since we have seen anything from the actually system that suggests otherwise

That only proves that the Wii U is more powerful though.  If Wii U is on par with PS360 games and "maybe a bit better" then that means 1st gen Wii U games are equal to or slightly greater than 4th or 5th gen PS360 games.  So what would 4th or 5th gen Wii U games look like?

So, not a monumental leap, but a more powerful piece of hardware for sure.

If the rumors of AC3 running at 60fps and 1080p are true, this argument will be deaded once and for all.  We just have to wait and see.

@ 1st bolded  Judging by the past NInty consoles?? Only a bit better.

@ 2nd bolded  Thats not good enough, a least not for me and a few others. This is debuting six years after the 360 and we dont even know what the other two will do for sure yet. If you've never owned an HD console then welcome to the party, but if your like me and have owned one for sometime, then their is nothing mindblowing about the Wii U, especially since the system only allows two pads per console. not saying it will be bad, but as of now its just OK.

@3rd bolded, LOL thats what you guys were saying prior to E3, "just you wait till E3, Ninty will show you" and they didnt really, so now your're telling me I have to wait YEARS? Sounds a bit like goal post moving

oh please, PS3 got just as much negative attention in the start as Wii did. I'll give you that in the end PS3 got alot less, but why is that?? Is it really hate for Ninty and love for SOny? i dont buy that, IMHO and i know im going to get flamed for this. SOny tried to improve their situation. PSN sucked when it came out, its in a much better place now.  WiiWare?  That service is just as crappy now as it was back when it started, hell its probably worst since VC releases are way more infrequent

I don't think you're gonna get flamed.  But I do disagree that PS3 got just as much heat as the Wii.  I don't even think it was close.  PS3 only got bad press when in it's first couple of years ($599 US dollars, ports that weren't as good as the 360 version, the early Yahoo doom articles).  Wii got all of that stuff all throughout its ENTIRE lifespan.  And editors would write pieces about the Wii and would be outright trolling, it was really bad.

I remember IGN had an article titiled "Nintendo is lazy and we don't care" back in 2009. It was basically bashing nintendo gamers for liking wii games although they did not have top of the line graphics. Imagine bashing gamers for liking a game,  really BASHING GAMERS FOR LIKING A GAME, and this was written on the nintendo section by the "gaming journalist" their (although I think they left shortly after) and was posted as a top article on their main page.

Before that I never really posted anything on the internet defending nintendo, but after that I lost all respect for major gaming sites. Its like I suddenly saw the light and all the negative media nintendo was getting. And yes from then on everytime I hear someone spew crap about nintendo I feel the need to correct them at least. Not saying everything they do is good, hell I hated the way they presented the wiiu at E3  and would defefinetly not defend that, but other bias and uninformed decisions about them gets me.

Mission accomplished!

:P

nah I wouldn't doubt them having one at all...they have plenty they need to share before the system launch and it's too important to do it via something like Nintendo Direct. It's just a matter of time. They will try to time it real well taking the launch date/marketing campaign into consideration.

Despite what some may think, I've never been a big Nintendo fan. Don't care much for the major Nintendo series (3D Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Starfox, Donkey Kong).

I am a big Wii fan though.

I'm not a WiiU fan.

If WiiU had been an improvement and enhance of everything that made Wii great - HD, better online, enhanced motion controls (no more calibrating...), improved Miis, an innovative Wii ____ title, I'd be thrilled. I fell in love with how Wii made you feel more immersed in the game. Like you were playing tennis in Wii Sports or golf in Tiger Woods or beating the snot out of people in Godfather or actually aiming and shooting in Goldeneye, or slicing them to bits in Red Steel 2.

If you told me I could play AC3 or ME3 with enhanced WM+ and IR aiming and Nintendo made a bold new Wii___ title (I dunno, Wii Racing with places, boats, cars, horses etc for example) I'd buy WiiU day one and those titles (and Batman and ZombiiU and maybe Lego City) day one. I'd be it's biggest fan.

But WM+ is been cast aside for the gamepad. I hate dual analog aiming, and all the buttons. It's a idelogical course reversal from Wii and if you look at the success Apple has had with simplicity (ipads/pods/phones have one, count it one, button) they are going in the wrong direction. WiiU should have been the essence of the Wii realized in it's full potential. Similar, better, more elegant. Instead WiiU looks like a horrid compromise (between casual/core) no one wanted.

I don't.

I don't. I'm just not compelled enough by Nintendo's hardware and software offerings to spend my money on it.

I can say the same for the PlayStation Vita. The hardware is cool , but there isn't enough software and it's too expensive at the moment, so I won't buy one.

I don't know why anyone could/should hate Nintendo. Sure they tend to make family friendly stuff, but their products are of very high quality. Their games are among the most polished on the market.

They do tend to be on the conservative side of things when it comes to franchises, which may annoy some people.
And they've been very slow to jump into online gaming. They do have a lot of catch up to do when it comes to that, but really... Are those reasons enough to actually hate them? Nope.

People will hate on anything irrationally anyway. Be it Sony, Apple, Microsoft, Nintendo, anything... Ask them the reason why, and they'll start grasping at straws and not making much sense.

1st - That doesn't make sense to me.  This current gen is the only gen that saw Nintendo skimp out on power.  In all previous gens, Nintendo's consoles were just as powerful or more powerful than the competition - I don't see any reason to ignore that fact and pretend the Wii situation is the norm.

2nd - That's fine.  I understand that many people are accustomed to huge leaps between generations.  Past generations have always had huge leaps over the previous one.  But with development costs being as expensive as they are, I don't know how much farther the envelope can be pushed.  For Nintendo fans, I think I speak collectively that we'll just be glad to see a Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime, and a Zelda in HD and it'll make us happy campers.  Also, if I'm correct about Sony or Microsoft not making a quantum leap into next gen in terms of power, I wonder if you guys will suddenly be ok with not having that leap.   Like, is it only a problem because Nintendo's doing it?  We'll see.  I admire Nintendo for sacrificing "power" in order to be profitable and keep dev costs down.  It's a smart business decision.  Wouldn't want to lose all that money they made off of the Wii, DS, GC, GBA, etc. just to be bleeding edge in the next gen.

3rd - Not at all.  I'm sure a lot of people thought E3 was going to be the big Wii U reveal and it turned out not to be.  Who knows what we'll see when Nintendo decides to show us.  But we won't know if AC3 runs at 60fps and at 1080p until they decide to show us.  Don't know what you're talking about with "wait years".  AC3 is a launch game.  You'll only have to wait a couple months, and we'll know if it runs better before then when they unveil it.
