There are plenty of offers out there for those who want one. I got mine with Uncharted (a game I was planning to get anyway) for €249, so I saved €50.

If you want a Vita this holiday season, it's almost guaranteed that you will want it with some of the top tier games like LBP, AC, CoD, PSASBR... and all those games are gonna be bundled, so it's basically a €50 cut for 99% of potential buyers.

Indeed.

Game already have Vita + FIFA + Uncharted + Rayman for £239.  That's £90 of games!!

Or a whole host of bundles of single top games for £219.

Consider that the launch price was £229 in the uk and you can see that it already has effectively had a massive price cut, so perhaps it isn't price after all?

I dont think the price is the main factor.

If you look at the market sony is after ie. people on this forum, gamers who are probably between the ages of 18 - 25, people who generally have jobs and can afford consoles irrespective of price if the want is there. Then going on that i dont see how price is an issue...considering the tec you are getting its well worth it.

I think its the lack of killer software...or rather software that people really want. There might be one or two great titles..but not enough to make gamers like myself make the purchase.

I also think given the rise of smartphones, tablets and extremely cheap portable gaming...people are no longer prepared to pay a arm and a leg for a console as well as a premium on games , not to mention the memory cards...

Imo dedicated console gaming, whether it be home console gaming or portable gaming, needs to relook at how they are handling pricing. Games no longer carry that value...im not sure what the solution is but something needs to change drastically or else the gaming industry as we know it today will collapse.

Where is this rumor coming from that Vita is selling at a loss?

http://www.industrygamers.com/news/playstation-vita-3g-actually-profitable-for-sony/
Display and touchscreens: $50
Battery: $3.60
Cameras: $3.50
Wi-Fi/BT/GPS: $3.50
NAND: $6.00
SDRAM: $9.25
Processor: $16.00
BB+XCR: $16.25
Non-electronic: $11.00
Other: $30.00
Supporting materials: $10.00

+ on avg 20% marketing and a bit going to manufacturing costs. Vita is a profitable device. Regardless of how bad it is selling right now, it is still positive revenue which would be negated by a price drop.
Sony tried giving gamers something for nothing with PSP and PS3 and it only hurt them, now I guess they are doing it the way the company needs. Don't blame'm.

right here  http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/110862-Sony-Will-Lose-Money-on-Vita-Hardware-Sales

I'm sure you've already had it explained to you why this is not indicative of each hardware unit selling at a loss, but the vita project as a whole. But whatever, cheap trolling is easy.

@ZaneWane
that doesn't really say anything or prove it is selling at a loss. As I just showed you the break down of component parts has it valued at about 160 on hardware alone. That is 90-140 extra on each sold If about 60 is going to retailers, what is left is SONY's. Yes, I know manufacturing costs need to be recovered, yet that easily taken care of with what they are making. The Wifi is at LEAST breaking even and the 3G is profit.

Now they just need to figure out how to get it to sell faster. Bundling is a great idea but there is too much bad press about the Memory Cards. They should throw in that good for nothing but entry into having a MC,4GB and actually put the advertisement Co. to work.

Greatness Awaits

PSN:Forevercloud (looking for Soul Sacrifice Partners!!!)

Reducing the price at this point would be ludicrous given how there are no significant system sellers to go with it.

Release those games first, then (if that doesn't help) we can start talking about cutting the price. Oh, and after the bundles.

You're not accounting for assembly, packaging, warehousing, shipping or any software/patent licensing fees associated with the system ...

This much bundling almost seems like a semi-pricecut in itself, though better in a way because it doesn't lower the value of the device in consumer's eyes.

Vita has already been unofficially reduced in price.
