Forums - Nintendo - Video Game Developer Says He’s More Successful From Nintendo Online Shops Than App Store

EscapeVektor developer Nnooo has created WiiWare, DSiWare and games for the App Store. Creative director Nic Watt claims that because consumers who buy Nintendo platforms are mainly interested in video games, while Apple consumers just want newness and cheap prices, developers – including Nnooo – have more success with creating WiiWare and DSiWare.

“In terms of sales, we have not seen anywhere near the volume of sales for Pop on iOS devices as we have on WiiWare and DSiWare.”

“The main advantage as far as we are concerned is that the people who buy Nintendo platforms actually care about buying and playing games. They are actively engaged in gaming and want new content and experiences. In comparison I feel that too many users of iOS are freeloaders who just want as much as they can get for as little expenditure. They are not looking for quality experiences or for longevity. They just want novelty and cheap prices.”

That's good to hear that folks make money from Nintendo's online platforms.

This comes out from a developer who has experience on both sides of the coin and they say something completely different what most analists said for years. App games ingulfing the consoles life-spans? I think not.

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

The problem with most of the analysis of the mobile market is that it is based on the performance of the top 0.1% of apps/developers ...

If you were a middle of the pack game developer you may be substantially better off by selling your game on one of the consoles/handhelds or steam.

Interesting, good for Nintendo

Wow, I would've never thought this!

It sucks being the middlepack in the IOS I can assume. I'm pretty sure if pushmo was on the IOS, it wouldn't have been succesful but on the 3DS its really succesful.

It's a lot harder to get noticed on the App Store than on other digital stores.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

I do not see why any consumer looking out for themselves would not "want as much as they can get for as little expenditure." This is a basic law of biology and energy conservation. This is also something that is normal in thought processes, so it is a stupid statement to expect a consumer to be looking out for a company.
