Forums - Sony - PS3 gets native YouTube app (FREE!!)

Why did you bring up xbox live? Did you feel the need to make the comparison for no real reason? Anyway glad this is coming The PS3 web browser just plain sucks even with all the attempted improvements by Sony.

Thank God almighty! Sure PS3 can play videos on its web browser but HD functionality. So much long awaited win. Seriously, Vita got this app first, wtf.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Smartglass :D

lol

Sorry...Microsoft still needs to show off what exactly makes smartglass smart. Until then I just have a bunch of questions and serious doubts. If feels so long ago from one they showed it at E3.

.....YouTube App on PS3 WooHoo!

The PS3 should have received this years ago. Along with apps for other popular sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc). It does have a browser but I'm not sure if people use the browser because it sucks. Integrating more apps directly on the XMB would have probably caused more internet usage amongst PS3 users imo.

Pretty sweet. Good for those who'll use it. I doubt I'll use it for more than just the novelty of it all, though. Just like the app for my 360 and Vita, I just revert back to using my PC and Smartphone. Still, it's free and more options is always a good thing.

But you use it WITH your smartphone.

That OP glossed over the main point. You can use your phone to tell the PS3 which video to play. Then while its playing you can continue to use the phone to queue in the next video. The article I read only mentioned Android, but I don't see why an iPhone couldn't do it as well as it must be something in YouTube itself.

I find this as awesome as PS3s current youtube app sucked really badly.

Just take your phone, go to the store and download the "Youtube remote" app.  I've had that for a year.  Oh, I have a Google Phone (Droid 2) and Youtube is owned by Google now.  Maybe that has something to do with it.

The PS3 actually never had a youtube app.

Well it was a youtube channel or something built into the browser. Eitherway it sucked.

So far i am enjoying the new app. I watch a lot of let's plays of games on you tube and now i can do it on my 46" tv instead of my 14" laptop. Which frees up my laptop up for stuff like facebook and twitter....which for me is starting to become like a part time job to keep up with lol.

Took long enough sheesh, hate using youtube on the poopy browser. Not that I use it that often simply because it's so bad.
