If you're talking about the map on the touch screen, it could work with both first person and third.

Yeah, but in first person it is more a like a tile-map. WIthout a second screen map, it can become very confusing. With it, it works very well - like in strange journey.

A 3rd person RPG with tile-map movement (one step/one square) would be awkward I think. It would have to have a more free movement - which is fine, but I think I prefer the dungeoun crawler style for now. Anyway, both will be good, as I liked both games (3 and "4")

Well there is not a lot of competition on the 3DS anyway when it comes to RPG's so it's a realistic goal to achieve.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

i want this in Europe Nintendo.....

It does not need to be the best. That's subjective. It just needs to be enjoyable.

It should strive to be the best. The industry needs it. (and so does the 3DS)

@mothman. Which games are considered Shin Megami Tensei? Are all the branches still considered part of the Megami Tensei series?

these old school rpgs are kinda stagnant nowaday. This generation isn't tolerant of the whole turn-based thing, unless your planning to compete with poke-mon which in the bottom-line you will lose.

Have you played Nocturne or DDS? If this game is 3rd person they should provide a good comparison for how SMT4 will turn out. The maps don't use tiles, but you're constantly pressing triangle or whatever to check out where you want to go on the map. Having that on the second screen would eliminate that. You don't need a grid map for it to work well.

I played only Nocturne, a lot. I know it would work well - even better on the 3DS because of the second screen. In fact, when this game was announced I thought SMT3 would be THE model to follow. But the more I think, the more I find the grid-type dungeoun crawler style is better for this game. It's a type of game that grew a lot in me, especially after the I played them with a second screen.

Maybe for marketing purposes they'll choose third person - as I think it's easier to sell a game like that. Or maybe they'll stick to tradition (minus 3) and go first person. But, like I said, either way they decide is ok by me, almost a certain buy from me.
