I'm playing my first SMT game (Devil Survivor) at the moment and I'm loving it so far. I intend to play a lot more of this series in the near future.
Also, it is confirmed whether SMTIV is 1st or 3rd person? Given SMTIII was on the PS2 and was 3rd person, I expect SMTIV on the more powerful 3DS will be too, but I wast confirmation, not that I have anything against 1st person RPGs though.

Just a warning but there are several arms of SMT and they all play differently while sharing similar demon compendiums along with a few other traits.
Actually most of the games we get over here with SMT as a preface are not considered SMT games in Japan. The offshoots are:
Devil Survivor (1 and 2) (SRPG), Devil Summoner (1 and 2) (Action RPG), Digital Devil Saga (1 and 2) Turn based RPG similar to the main RPG series but with a very different battle system and the Persona Series(1 to 4) (Turn based RPG with Dating and Social elements moreso in the latter two). Then there is Strange Journey on the DS which is a turn based first person dungeon crawler. There is some debate regarding whether is is a mainline SMT game or not.
I love them all but your mileage may vary.

It's not PR talk. Maniax along with FF XII are the two best RPGs on the PS2 or any otherplatform.
Shin Megami Tensei IV will be grand.
Thats a bold claim. I hope its at least better than SMT 3 and DDS overclocked. I would like for a more direct and aggresive plot like the first to SMT games.
Good. They need to hit a high mark for what will be my entry level game into the series.
@ Soriku: Then, if I'm enticed by this release, I'll go back and play the previous game. Sort of like I did with the Ogre franchise and even Zelda. Ogre Battle 64 and A Link to the Past were so great I went back and played the first two games of both series.
This game will be glorious!
I mean it, glorious! I was thinking, and while before I wanted a third person game like Nocturne... now I think I prefer a first person one... they really work with the second screen.
