On topic I hope this game turns out good, mainly because Ninty could careless about giving us more than 1 Smash a generation. So I say go ahead Sony and show NInty why they should treat Smash with more respect.

Also, is this is the reason Nintendo don't make new IP because it will be a rip-off of other games? |
Have you played super smash bros? Most characters have fully unique movesets, bar minor exceptions which even those it can be debated to which point they are similar. All the follow up posts to this by other posters also make absolutely no sense.

Exactly, plus smash already has the "I don't know who's winning" mode, it's called time mode.

Heaven above, the guy just explained what he disagreed about the opinion. Read it. All he's saying is that he doesn't agree that advanced hardware or the games being limited to 2D platormers (which is completely untrue) has really nothing to do with anything about smash bros.
Actually if you are familiar with the history of Smash, the series was instrumental to the 3D-sation of core Nintendo IPs such as Kid Icarus and Samus, which had yet to receive the 3D treatment. As such that part of the text was complete bogus.
@kitler. Smash is not a defensive game by any means. If you want points, you need to attack. If you're playing time attack there is no way you will win if you just wait in a corner the whole game, it doesn't work that way. True, you could go away and only come back when other players are weak, but that doesn't work so well on a 4-player ffa. Also, most people have their ways of eliminating players that play like that.
The rest of your post makes perfect sense.
@article
In general my opinion of the article is that the author praised the game above smash and I think that's ridiculous. It's one thing to point out the differences, another to say the game is more this than that game. Kind of childish.
Anyways, I would tear it apart piece by piece but I don't feel like it and it will just annoy you guys, so I'll leave it at this: the article felt like an overly optimistic take on the game, written by yes, a fanboy, and I am still looking forward to it, but I will always love Smash above all else. There is something about edgeguarding, dodging and other Smash concepts that I would never do away with. I also find supers generally unbalanced, as a concept, and avoid using them as much as possible in fighting games, where they are optional (SFIV for example). I am not looking forward to getting nuked while trying to evade a super.

Lol, just an opinion. Good grief the internet must be serious to you guys. Hell i actually like Uncharted just ask CGI |
it must be serious to you if you have to post 10 times in a row.

That's just not true in more ways than one. I think it's fine to like this more than Brawl, most Sony fans will "like" it better than Smash Bros. by default (it's on PS3, it has Sony characters, etc). It may boil down to whether you like ring outs vs a scoring system. But the author does seem to be more of a Sony fan because the comment I quoted is a little silly/fanboyish. |
"That's just not true in more ways than one"
how so? please elaborate
its amusing though how nintendo fans value the opinion of a random game developer who apparently hasn't played the game or has nothing to do with it over the tons of impressions from game reviews and other beta testers who have been actually playing the game for weeks now

@bold. Can you be more specific? What Nintendo fans, what game developer? Is OP article one of the beta testers you're talking about?
After seeing more gameplay and reading about the mechanics, it becomes pretty apparent that this isn't a Smash Bros. clone after all. I mean, Jump Ultimate Stars is more of a clone than this is, and if you've played that you know that it's nothing like SSB.

Even taken at face value, this judgment by the author does not seem to make sense. If you really boil down what it being said, it is that Nintendo characters are old and Sony's are not. This is a judgment call ... and you can back up the judgment call by citing personal preference/familiarity. You can’t do it by making up facts which don’t seem to make sense. (For the record, 20 of the 36 characters in SSBB come from racing, RPGs or action/adventure games. The others made their first appearance on platformers, be it 2, 2.5 or 3D – but many have branched out (almost all have also done racing, for example).

You don't need me to do that for you, all you have to do think for yourself...
Which charaters in Sony All-Stars were "born on more advanced hardware"?
Which Nintendo characters in Smash are "limited to 2D platformers"?
And why would any of those two characteristics have anything to do with either roster feeling more "imaginative" or "fitting" in a free-for-all, 4-player fighting game?
