Forums - Sony - Sony having a difficult time getting third party support for the Vita

I will state the obvious once again but the Vita has a bunch of games which inevitably pale in comparison to their PS3 counterparts and long story short despite its enormous power for a handheld it has nothing special to offer.

So far the biggest sales spike came from P4. Sony should act accordingly instead of waiting for Assassins Creed and CoD to save the day.

and people tell me sales dont matter lol

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

And which ones would that be?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

It has significant competition for developer's attention. If you're a smallish developer these days you have the choice of:

  • Steam
  • IOS
  • Android
  • 3DS
  • Wii U
  • Live
  • PSN
  • Vita
  • Windows 8/RT/Phone (this year).

You also have the new iPad mini, new iPhone, new iTouch and on Android you have Nexus, Fire 2 and various phones etc. There is significant demand on developers attention and 2.6M LTD sales aren't enough. What is worse is that even if the Vita does pick up towards the end of this year it'll take at least a year longer for that to translate into more games.

Tease.

For the christmas season soul sacrifice and type-0 golden or something would work much better.

Sony shouldn't bet so high on assassins creed, ubisoft releasing it the same day as AC3 is sending it to die. Someone at ubisoft needs to tell them to release the vita version 2-3 weeks before AC3

according to benvtrigger (he's got the gamestop, america intel) assassin's creed will the be best seller of all upcoming vita titles.

Thats a real obvious bet tho, theres really only 4 games coming this fall for the vita. COD, AC, sly cooper and playstation all stars. since activision never advertise COD on playstation platforms its safe to say they wont with COD vita while on the other hand ubisoft heavily advertise AC on playstation, and lets not forget if it is the best selling vita title doesnt mean its going to sell all that well, just better then the really poor competition

I was referring to the game that pale in comparison.

No doubt more holiday releases would be nice, but soul sacrfiice is pinned for march and no word on type-0 yet.

Well I hope this holiday season goes well for the Vita

Ive been playing the MGS HD collection on it today and I just love the Vita. Gravity Rush was Amazing as well.

I would hate to see it die as its my favorite handheld ever in terms of hardware

And as far as my statement about AC Vita being the top seller for the holidays its two things really

1. Its doing better than COD currently in terms of pre orders

2. The bundle is actually being pre ordered and will move some systems. Consumers who were interested in getting a Vita but dont need one immediatly are generally preordering the bundle thanks to getting AC and a memory card for free.

Now keep in mind however that if COD garners high review scores and gets tons of advertising this could all change but if current trends hold AC should do pretty well for Vita as long as reviews arent terrible.

Where do people keep pulling this dev cost non-sense from? Every dev statement points to the Vita being extremely dev friendly.

dev friendly doesn't mean dev cost is not higher though.

The bulk of a game's development costs are decided by the size of the task force, how much each of those employes is being payed and the time spent creating the product. Therefor, Easier to work with = Cheaper development cycle.

http://www.shacknews.com/article/69209/vita-development-costs-closer-psp

http://www.siliconera.com/2011/08/16/playstation-vita-devkits-cost-far-less-than-psp-and-playstation-3-kits/

Also, devs don't have to make big budget, cutting edge games for it to make something that would sell.

It is much cheaper though. $2,000 for the Vita dev kit, that's it. PS2 and PS3 were $20,000 at launch. Vita has been touted by devs for the ease of development and porting. Not knowing which devs, I heard a quote from an industry person (don't remember who) talking about the remarkably short time to development the Vita was. The makers of Oddworld praised it for being able to port over their code in under 2 weeks time and have it fully rendered. I don't remember exactly what they said but they were reallly amazed by it and hands down is cheaper than developing on PS3.

dev kit cost is lower than PSP and PS3 doesn't mean the dev cost is lower. Based on the information provided, the dev cost is still higher than PSP. It is also likely higher than 3DS. My point was that even if it's dev friendly, the dev cost is still higher than its predessessor and competition which makes it an even less desirable choice to develope a game on after considering the low user base.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
