I see that "720" likes to get slipped in, complete with one article where it is expected that XBox 720 will be the name of the system.  Well, 720 doesn't make really any sense.  What does 720 stand for?  People who are doing 720 now, were also likely saying XBox 2 would be the name for the XBox 360.  It just one is setting themselves up for disappointment doing this.

So, in light of this, I propose calling any next gen version of the XBox console, the "Nextbox" (or if not that, at least the code name).  Reason why?

* Nextbox is a shortened version of "Next XBox".

* Going with a placeholder name saves one from trying to speculate the reasoning of Microsoft on what they have in mind.

So, in short, that is my proposal.  If one has a better placeholder name, please come up with it. And if you insist on saying XBox 720, why the heck do you see Microsoft going with 720, outside of it having double the name 360?

I agree with OP as I usually call it Nextbox as well. Until we find out the real name. 

I would say to go with this for every next generation console by Microsoft, until they drop the XBox name itself. Saying part of the name is XBox makes sense. Beyond that though, nothing is certain.

I just call it the next Xbox. Nextbox works fine, but I don't think it needs a placeholder name. I do agree that 720 doesn't work. I think it's going to be Xbox Infinity with a sideways 8, but until we know I just call it the next Xbox and sometimes Xbox Next.

I always refer to it as the Nextbox for the placeholder name as well, written: NeXtBox, lol.  But yeah, I never call it Xbox 720...

Personally, I like "Xbox 1080", just because the console will be native 1080p (the Dashboard, not necessarily every game).

I propose shutting the fuck up because that is the WORST name and not only that has been on ZERO leaks thus far. Call it Xbox720 or Durango. Those are your options. Deal with it.
