It didn't really need the Final Fantasy name, all it needed was to release on the Ps3 as well. It's such a shame, Sakaguchi deserved better.

Yep, as a general observation japanese multiplat rpgs sold better on the PS3, just saying...

No, because it's not the name that sells Final Fantasy games, it's their quality.

Name is also important.  FFXIII sold a lot 1st week because of name only, but later on, the craptastic quality made it to stop selling.

If there is a new IP what matters is only the quality of the game.

That is wrong, in japan it is very typical for long awaited games to do great numbers in the first week and then have massive drops.

And if it all were a matter of a brand name why did XIV went to hell from the very first second ? We are forgetting that at first XIII was fairly well received and it was only after most people played the game, were done with it and went on with their lives, that all the internet whinny know-it-alls started bitching about it like it was dooms day. And here we are waiting for XIII-3.

But don't let me spoil another Square Enix hate circle jerk...

If thats true then why has FF13-2 sold a lot less copies than FF13? With FF13-3 likely to sell less copies than its predecessor (unless FF Versus is renamed FF13-3).

We know that Japanese titles have a large drop off after their launch week. What is in debate here is why FF13-2 sold less copies than its predecessor.

Damn straight I want FF13-3 to be in development. I dont want Production Team 1 to have any involvement what so ever with FF15. That dosent mean I'm anticipating the game.

Yup.

At the time, and still now, the 360 doesnt attract the jrpg type of gamer. Its however "THE" WRPG go-to console.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Yes. So would have every other JRPG, so that is a pointless question.

Lost Odyssey would have sold better if it was for the PS3, as other JRPGs have proven.

And as for pulling numbers like FFXIII, it would have only been possible if it was near the quality and polish of XIII. The battle system was slow and tedious, the complete opposite of XIII's ATB system.

Yes, spamming auto-attack is alot faster and not tedious at all.

What you call tedious means you actually have to strategize. I know... thinking can be such a chore sometimes...

...a battle system blending action and strategy... back of FF XIII box

Oh yes, the back of the box sure knows what its saying to try and sell you the piece of crap.

Sorry all you do in the game is auto attack and change paradigms to heal and back to attack. That is your strategy from the back of the box. A grand total of 2 strategies.

You know whats sad? Its that you only control 1 character at once. What kind of strategy do you make from that? There is none. Its commands. Its like playing the past FF titles with just 1 party member. Thats what FFXIII is. You virtually got 1/3rd or 1/4th of what you had before and then we get these guys saying that its such a great blend of action and strategy...nope, it isnt. Its just pretty to look at for a bit. Thats all.

Dumb question...

However, I question people that think sakaguchi's name sells things, and if he was on the PS3 it would magically boost sales by 3-4 million... Last Story sold worse than LO... the final fantasy movie of his did abysmally (despite that I liked it), all his games had pretty good sales for a JRPG not called FF/DQ/Pokemon. Great videogame creator, pretty bad businessman, which is why he's not with SE anymore, and probably why mistwalker's doing iphone games now.

Oh, you must be one of those idiots that had long battles and 2 hour boss fights because you let the game auto pick generic attacks, good for you.

You're right! Its the 1% that makes all the difference.

You sound experienced !

I'm sure LO would have sold better if it was called Final Fantasy, it could have also sold better if it had a far bigger marketing push.
