You do realise that a 80Go 1.8" HDD is much more expensive than a 2.5" one ? You understand that a sensibly shrinked CPU is very expensive ? Those 2 things alone explain why the MacBook Air is much more expensive than it's MacBulk counterpart.
Having its computer half the size and half the weight costs money obviously. That's like the SSD disk, yeah it's only 64GB, and it's amazingly more expensive, but it's much faster. The simple fact that you can buy the MacBook Air with a SSD disk shows that it's targeted at wealthy people.
I honestly dont particularly like the design, its lost its artistic edge, it looks like a Dell laptop!!!! OH THE HUMANITY!!
It's not an OLED, it's a LED. LEDs are brighter, thinner, more energy efficient and have a longer lifespan than LCDs. Also better for the environment (less toxic and stuff). Apple has LEDs in their MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.
I'm very interested in the MacBook Air (right now I'm planning to buy it around May 2009, when my current MacBook has its 2nd birthday), and I know quite some people who'd like their notebooks to be slimmer and lighter. I think it will sell well.

Apple is basically banking on wireless technology being mature enough that optical is only really necessary when the data isn't made available for download (eg some software). Songs, movies, backup, and a great deal of software is all available with wireless networking, so strip out the optical drive and implement somewhat clumsy solutions for the rare times when optical is needed to steamline the portable experience for the 90% of the time when you don't need optical.
Obviously, this is only feasible if you mostly use your portable in places with good wireless access, preferably to an 802.11n hub. If this doesn't describe your usage habits, you will probably want to steer clear.

The technology is very cool but too immature to be practical at the moment ...
In 3 to 5 years I think this will be pretty ideal
famousringo,
You're talking like this was a terminal computer with all software on a server... Quite misleading. It's a perfectly normal notebook computer that can be used for all kinds of things with or without internet access. A DVD drive is, as you said, rarely needed. I long for the day video game consoles reach that level of comfort.

How do you not understand, its an extremely thin notebook dude. What a dumb question
