But, but... I put a smiley at the end! Surely, that counters all the negativity?

I'll say it again: good job, Sony, :D! Awesome, :D! Sony fans should be proud! etc. etc.

Nice numbers Sony. Make quality consoles with quality games and we will always buy your consoles.

... By the way, beware of the flammers incoming... :P

Impressive.
Can I ask where you got the figures for PS1 and 2 though? Pretty sure the PS1 stopped at 102.49 million... while I actually thought the PS2 was above what you have (something like 156m+)

He's using the VGChartz figures (http://www.vgchartz.com/analysis/platform_totals/)

Since we all hang out here, I guess they're as good numbers to use as any! :P

Congratulations Sony!

Since its inception almost 18 years ago, the PlayStation family has pioneered many wonderful ideas that are now industry standards. From dual analog control to Sixaxis, from DVD and Blu-Ray compatibility to simply creating a more third-party-friendly environment on their consoles. Even though I have never owned a PlayStation console, I am thankful for the innumerable ways in which Sony has changed for the better the way video games are made and played. Welcome to the extremely exclusive 400 club!

To the next hundred million!

Hmm, well I am pretty sure that's a mistake (unless Sony started selling new PS1s in the last 2 years) Sony's own websites ended PS2 shipments at 102.49m in FY2005 (they took the info down a couple of years ago though, and annoyingly PS1 is not in their historical figures)

Not sure on the PS2 figure but the shipment figure is actually just short of 158 million... I am not certain if that is a mixture of sales (read shipments to retailers) and "production shipments" though, which would warp the numbers a little around 2000 and 2007 when Sony switched reporting figures (ie a couple of million consoles may be counted twice in the number... still should be over 154m though)

The 1 Playstation per person isn't true, obviously.

Quite a milestone. Good for Sony.

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

No, I agree with you, if I were doing it I'd just use the official Sony figures.  But it's kind of a different issue because it's the VGChartz database that needs updating, or maybe not if it knows something we don't.

Share your first memory of a PlayStation product!

Mines was of my uncle taking me to his house and letting me play the original PlayStation. He used to lend it to me on weekends, and then one day he showed up at my house with a large brown box, he brought it up to my room, opened it up, and said 'It's your's now'. What a glorious day that was.
