Well it sells on the strength of its games and the price of the system in the emerging markets... people dont actually think its selling to new adopters in the developed nations do they?

I dont think it sells much in the major markets.   If it shipped 4m or 5m last year i'd say less than 10% of that is in major markets and the majority of those that are shipped to the major markets will be purchased as replacement consoles.

Ironic that the legacy of ps2 and psp have been part of the problem for sony this gen.

Okay, you've piqued my interest. Let's work with the assumption that I did honestly make that statement.

Why would that make me a moron? The way I see it; overall, SCE is making a loss. The PS2 alone is definitely making a profit. Therefore, if you throw out everything else, wouldn't that get us out of the red?

People forget that even being in emerging markets are still sales and profits for the companies.

There are millions (or billions) of consumers outside the major markets.

I expect the PS3 to be in the same position of PS2 in a couple years. PlayStation brand is well known in emerging markets. Go to Turkey for example, no one ever heard of Wii, xbox or whatever, but they all know Atari, Sega or Playstation.

Yeah, ethomaz definitely got attacked quite a lot and unfairly sometimes. He kept his cool every time though, maybe he didn't see them as attacks.
