Forums - Nintendo - So how did the 3DS XL go from "Wow this is a dumb idea" to "WOW it looks GREAT! I WANT ONE" in like 2 monthes?

It didn't. Consumers were always going to buy it despite what actual gamers thought.

Gamers are people who buy games and consoles, and vote with their wallet. People buy the 3DS XL, so gamers want that product. You don't decide what actual gamers are.

Yes it sure did, on the forums at least. So the explanation is what Radish said, ie those who were complaining finally stfu, and those who are actually interested are now voicing their excitement after seeing the benefits it shows over the original model.

I was not very interested in the 3DS XL but when I first saw the real device I was very astonished how much better the graphics look on the big screen (and the great 3D!) and I think there are many people out there who feels like me.

I saw many people on the 3DS XL Launch day who tested the XL and obviously was astonished as I am. Some even asks the salesperson if it has better graphics chips because it looks so much better.

I think the 3DS XL could reach new customers that were originally not interested in the 3DS.

There's quite a large rift between consumer and gamer that extends beyond purely using your money to buy games and consoles. I should have initially said casual gamers and hardcore gamers to remove any doubt.

No, it didn't.  All problems of the 3DS are still there, it fixed nothing and just made new problems like crappy sound The people who complained about it not fixing any problems haven't changed their views and many people buying it will probably discover them pretty soon.

lol

@underlined. When did anybody here say the contrary?

@bold. When did anybody say the contrary? We jus said that they finally stopped complaining about it because most of them weren't really interested, hence why when the device is about to launch, they are nowhere bar a few exceptions.

@italics. I doubt those that are buying it didn't realize it was lacking certain features. They are just much more excited about the great improvements they weren't expecting, such as better 3D, better DS game playback, minor but better battery life, better comfort due to rounded edged, better image quality, etc. etc.

The people who were complaining about the lack of a second analogue stick aren't the same people that are buying it now

Most of those are the people  who would never buy it anyway because its a Nintendo system. They complain because they think their trolling will have some sort of impact.

This is the way elitists see the market. I don't like a product, everyone who buys it is a casual. You have lots more hardcore games in 3DS than in Vita, but "casuals" buy 3DS, and "hardcore" buy Vita. It seems that by that definition, there aren't many "hardcore" gamers.

I think many in the World wanted a 3DSXL from the start. The DSXL was large and wonderful. I think that was the perfect version of the DS. Other than the missing analog stick I am still pretty sure that everyone was going to get this. The other one as I have mentioned before, was just too small. In every aspect.

This

I never thought XL was a "bad idea." The reality is that more people are emulating nintendo software on their smartphones & tablets rather than wasting money on "nintendo-gear."
