Forums - Nintendo - Crytek confirms that 'Crysis 3' is not in development for the Nintendo Wii U

Thanks goodness. Now if they would just lock their middleware from running on the system, then we will be in business. I want "great" games on the Wii U, not the stuff they make.

Crytek, the developers behind the popular “Crysis” series, have been developing Crysis 3 over the last year. Set to be released on the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3, the titles have built a reputation for setting standards in first-person shooter visuals.

Lately, rumors have been going around questioning if Crytek’s “Cryengine” would be able to run on Nintendos upcoming Wii U platform. With Nintendo being extremely quiet about system specifications and Crytek known for pushing hardware, every quote, rumor, and speculation was picked apart by fans on both sides of the fence.

Last week, Crytek went on record and claimed that their Cryengine 3 could run on the Wii U. Somehow in the mind of every Nintendo fan ever, this clearly means that Crysis 3 was a guarantee. Well today, thanks to Crytek GM Nick Brown, we have our answer: No.

This morning Brown tweeted specifically about the Wii U speculations:

“Just to answer the speculation, we are not currently working on a Wii U version of Crysis 3.”

There you have it, Nintendo fans. Anyone that was hoping for an AAA shooter at launch for the Wii U can put the war paint away; there will be no Crysis 3 at this time for Nintendos next-generation console.

They could probably port Crysis 1 or 2 to Wii U. Wouldnt be surprised if they did.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

To be fair, his statement would still make perfect sense if it was an outsourced developer making the Wii U port. That being said, for my gaming needs, I don't personally care. The Wii U needs all the help and support it can get with regards to "core" offerings, however, and with EA's attitude and Crytek's attitude, things aren't looking so great.

They confirmed that CryEngine 3 is already running on Wii U a long time ago. Who in the world was recently questioning if the engine could run on Wii U?

The Examiner is one of the worst sources for video game news I can think of (maybe Yahoo is worse).

"My opinion of the Wii U is very high," said Yerli to CVG. "It's just that we didn't have a business case unfortunately that justifies us making a game for it.

"It doesn't mean that CryEngine 3 doesn't run on Wii U - it actually runs beautifully. In fact, there actually is a game in development from a respected developer that we will be announcing. I've seen the game running and it looks really great."

The rEVOLution is not being televised

That was my favorite part of the entire thing, pretty much sums up some of the people and then they get mad when the rumors they started dont come to pass.

@Wfz I hear what you're saying, but you cant possibly expect that every PS360/PC game that was ever released or will be released to come out on Wii U? IMHO i think the upcoming games are good enough for now and we dont even know everything, looks a hell of a lot better than the Wii's 3rd party support, from the last few years. And EA is releasing ME3 on the console, I dont know why but they are

It looks better than third party Wii support, but not by that much, really. From EA's talk earlier to this, it just feels like these top gaming companies really don't care about the Wii U and don't see much coming out of it. It's disheartening for Nintendo fans like myself because we feel less inclined to buy the console when we know third parties won't be offering their AAA support.

But no, nowhere did I say or at all mean to imply that I expect every PS360/PC game to appear on the Wii U. I would actually be disappointed if that were the case, as I'd expect the Wii U to gain more unique experiences rather than ports.

Far enough but i do know some people who do feel that way, and I could kinda see where the frustration comes from but whatcha gonna do?? Hope for the best

Duh.

Lol.

Lilbroex, your opening sentences in these threads continue to entertain highly. Please continue this trend.

Hey now, Crysis 2 was fun (compared to most other modern shooters). Though nothing about the third game grabs my attention...
