Forums - General Discussion - Gilgamesh brings color back to VG Chartz! - Now with text sizing and more colors!

Now that all this tricks are coming to the general knowledge, does anyone know why many options from the Rich Text Reply, like headings or the horizontal ruler, don't work?

it's very frustating trying to post some an article or something else, making use of the tools only to find out that all that work has gone wasted because nothing besides bold, italic and underline works.

Technical answer: All our posts are in a container called post-body which has styling directives with the !important tag which overrides a lot of the formatting that the Rich Text Editor should allow us to do.

As for why the website has been designed this way, you'd have to ask ioi. I guess it was in an effort to have some uniformity on the forums but it's not like crazy colored posts were really a problem in the past.

Color will bring more young people, with more young people comes 1000000 more post, more post makes VG Chartz more popular, VG Chartz more popular makes VG Chartz more money, more money brings bigger better graphing tools and then everyone wins.

The children are the future!!

Well there was the odd person who liked posting in purple or blue, but generally people didn't mind that... there were a couple of people who posted whole paragraphs in red or orange though which is more annoying, but they can just be warned and banned like other infractions if needed.

I've argued for bringing back the colour options again because if you try to create a table with sales data in it it's nice to be able to colour text or the background of the cell in order to distinguish between different bits of data (e.g. Wii, PS3 and 360 columns). Wheras ioi wants a "consistent professional look" or something. I mean it's his site and he can ultimately do what he wants but that decision makes no sense to me at all, this is a public gaming forum not a school or business website, no one coming here is going to think anything bad if 1 in 1000 users writes consistently in blue or uses colour to highlight portions of text.

But then why does the site have those tools if they can't work? It doesn't make sense.

But then, maybe when the the old Rich Text Reply was brought back after the launch of VGC 3.0 after many asked for it's come back, they (ioi or the guys that made the site) just "copied" the old code without thinking that some things wouldn't work.

Please excuse my bad English.

I totally agree, you just need to warn/ban the people who go overboard. The professionalism argument doesn't hold water when you've got a NSFW section with topics like "How does it feel to have a boner" or "Banged 2 chicks at the same time".

Well the decision to not allow those things through is definately intentional, I guess it's possible they forgot to take the horizontal rule button  and format drop-down off the RTE.

 GilgameshYay! it works!! finally!!!

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

I remember back in the dayz I used to be one of the very few who actually used this feature. I used to use Comic Sans, and looking back now I see how annoying it is.

But that was a pretty dramatic transformation, Gilgamesh

I can just copy paste from gamrReview.

EDIT: Apparently I can't. The colours don't show up and everything has a grey background. You win this one, gilgamesh.

You don't necessarily need the !important. I've also added the font face for anyone who's interested, btw.

All you need is this:
[strong style="font-family: Papyrus; color: red;"] TEST [/strong]

Like I said in my above post, I've used this feature in the past and it does get annoying SPECIALLY when there is website update; it does ruin the site's cosmetic consistencies, and most particularly when such feature is overused and/or with no purpose.
