The real playstation all-stars are missing and almost all the characters they reveal (with a couple exceptions like Drake or Kratos) are from game series nowhere near as popular, let alone the character chosen being popular and in some cases complete duds.  Like how the hell is Big Daddy a Playstation all star?  He was a 360 timed exclusive star and the game sold craploads more on 360 than it did PS3.

Meanwhile where are the characters that first established themselves on playstation systems and for a time were icon playstation characters?

1). Lara Croft - Tomb Raider games were hits and only on plastation for a long time.
2).Claire Redfield - Star of Resident Evil 2, the biggest selling RE game until RE5 released, RE2 was PS1 exclusive for long time.
3). Leon S Kennedy - Same as Claire, they equally lead characters so either would do.
4). Jill Valentine - Star of Resident Evil, the Directors Cut and RE3, all PS1 exclusive hit games, her instead of Leon/Claire would do, one character from RE is enough.
5). Abe - Star of Oddworld series with 2 hit games exclusively on PS1.
6). Cloud - Final Fantasy VII, massive PS1 hit game.
7). Sophitia Alexandra - From Soul Blade/Edge, very popular fighting game and she was easily to most popular character from that and throughout the series.
8). Dante - The original Dante, from DMC1/2/3, hit excusive PS2 games.  Not new Dante from a multiplat not even out yet.
9).Crash Bandicoot - 3 exclusive hit PS1 games and a spin-off, he was like Sonys answer to Mario and Sonic for several years.
10). Gabe Logan  - Syphon FIlter games.
11). Spyro - Hit PS1 games.
12). Solid Snake - WTF putting Raiden in, he is hated by most people especially after MGS2 bait and switch Konami did, blatent advertising (for a multiplat...) instead of picking the real icon of the series.
13). Pyramid Head - Silent Hill 2 was loved when it first came out, only on PS2.  This is easily the games and the series most iconic character.

All these have much greater stardom than what Sony seem to be adding into the game.  If they cannot get them for the game Sony either shouldn't have made the game or should should have picked a less retarded title that would scream 'farce' the moment the roster is looked at.

1). The first Tomb Raider was released on Sega Saturn and on the PC too. Later games also came to PC. I don't know how good Square and Sony's relations with each other are right now.
2-4). Resident Evil games were generally relased on PS1 before other platforms, but were always ported to other systems, RE4 was a gamecube exclusive for a long time too :/. Also, could you imagine the move sets for these characters? They would all be so similar they would be dull to play as :/
5). The Oddworld games have only broken a million once according to vgchartz (and that was back on the PS1), they then got released on the Xbox when the 6th gen started, don't seem to represent Playstation much :/
6). Cloud should be in the game, but Square may only allow Lightning :/
7). I really don't know anything about this series, but according to the chartz, the last game released in the soul blade/edge series was on the PS1, and they only sold 1.5 million, not that amazing :/
8). They should have the original Dante, but its Capcom who decides which Dante they can have and they want to popularize the new series, not Sony's fault.
9). Crash should be in the game, he hasn't had a good game in years so should be easy enough to get.
10). Move list is a bit limited and not the most popular, could come by DLC?
11). Spyro could be in the game, but with Skylanders doing well, it could be that they have to use the new image of Spyro not the old :(
12). The character list isn't complete, I'm sure Snake will make it :)
13). Is a very recognisable person, not sure how he would play but could be good.

Im sure plenty of the characters you are looking for will be added. Sony just wants to add current third party and first party and then most likely classic Sony main gen-born characters will join. The makers said a lot of characters will be in the game from Sonys history. I think they would know the mainstays. Things havent even started yet. It might end up getting to the point of DLC because of how many characters Sony has had under their belt from first to third party for three generations.

A) everythign you have listed are owned by third parties.  sony may very well have tried and been told no.

B) in regard to Dante -- it is a known fact that EVERY character has multiple costumes.  for all we know the old dante is also included via an alterative costume.

This game looks GREAT - may be a first week purchase.

But my issue is the lack of diversity in the stages. They all seem the same, just different themes. I hope they get a little more diverse.

KylieDog - you are insane for thinking that all those 3rd party developers would allow some unproven developer handle their goods. especially Solid Snake and Cloud.

especially from Japan - do not expect the A material. Be lucky they let B Classers in.

Did you see gameplay footage? Many (all?) of them are dynamic which makes them all quite different.

Yeah but they're all the same size from what I have seen, and same basic structure. Hopefully there's more variety (and different types of the same stages is not more variety).

Something like Corneia, Temple, Rainbow Cruise.
