Just like DS which was expected to pass PS2 but never did, maybe Wii will also fall short of 100m.

I would rather say: Just like DS wich was expected to pass PS2 but never did, so will Wii never pass PS1.

Who's to say it can't pass the PS1? The Wii is at 96.6mil, whilst the PS1 is at 104.2. You could easily say the Wii will either pass or come painfully close to 100mil this year, so assuming it could sell around 2mil next year, it only needs to trickle out another mil for 2 years to pass it...

The DS will easy pass the PS2.

Sony PlayStation 2 2000 153.86 million
Nintendo Nintendo DS 2004 152.05 million

Outdated PS2 numbers though...Sony will also release their quarterly shipments soon enough. PS2 will be 2-2.5m ahead (and it is still selling).

Isn't the DS still selling...more...though? It may only be selling between 35-40k per week, but I doubt the PS2 is selling more than 10k per week. So if it maintains that gap, even if it is 2.5mil ahead, it should outsell it late next year.

And that's without considering the holiday boosts.

PS2 is definitely selling more than 10k per week...

They shipped 1.4m PS2s for Q1 last year. Do you think they went from 1.4m to around 150k? :O

I'm only guessing, TBH. But I doubt it sells more than 2mil a year.

>_> 4.1m last year. 6m the year before

150k Q1 though would hint at a full year under 1m though...

What will DS sell this year? 500k Q1 (PS2 did 1.4m last year and went on to sell 4.1m for the full year).

4m? Less?

Really? It does that week?

I'd imagine the DS would push 5mil actually, but disregard all of my previous comments. My apologies.

Just to give you two an idea, the DS sold 1.3m this far in 2012 (vgchartz numbers). Sadly the PS2 numbers I don't have...

There are no Wiis in online stores because they are waiting for a new redesigned Wii at 99$! :D
Who knows!?

It really is a strange situation having it soldout at various online retailers. My guess would be that Nintendo is preparing a new SKU?

Or Nintendo don't want to keep flogging a dead house, as some other do.

It`s the retailers fault for not ordering. That`s what you meant, right?
That`s what i find odd, having more than one retailer with shortages at the same time. Either it`s just one strange coincidence or really there`s some sort of clearance to make way for something new.

Wii must pass 100 million. Sort it out retailers!

So 5m certainly looks way too high. I'd say around what PS2 did last year (4.1m) or possibly slightly lower for the year. I expect PS2 around 3m for the next fiscal year.

PS2 is multiple millions ahead. DS will never catch up, really. Gaining 1m this year and quite possibly nothing at all next year (PS2 has much more staying power)

Its PS2 baby, the king still marches on.

Okay but with a downward trend of 6mil to 4mil, how do you figure a statis at 4mil? What trend do I not have on hand, are the weekly sales following the same trend as last year? Feed me some numbers.

For the DS, it sold 8.8mil last year, here are the curves for 2011 and 2012 YTD:
