Gamepad still needs work though. There's no button mapping yet, no main menu, and opening closing some UI elements is atrocious as hell.

I'm loving the beta so far. I forgot how nice this community is, and how good it feels to help each other and receive thanks.

Movement and combat feel a lot lighter than before, yet at the same time it feels more impactful and grounded than GW2 combat. I'm really liking it. =)

Didn't they say they were getting rid of global cooldowns and making each spell its own again?

And unfortunately, FFXIV is a WoW clone. Endless, random fetch quests and 'kill x of y' quests. Combat that goes so fast that nothing seems meaningful. But what I really dislike, and maybe it will change in the higher levels, is that I can play the game all by myself without ever needing to join a party if I so chose. I understand that this is a good thing for many people but it completely destroys the community for me. I loved having to build a well balanced party in XI to get anything done. What's the point in this game?

I will say that the game does look beautiful and I'm still holding out hope that it will get better at higher levels, but right now I am sad that I already purchased the game.

Can't really argue on the point of quest spamming. Almost all of these are worthless trash quests. I would rather group up in a pt and just slay a shit ton of beasts. Still repetitive but I would rather be able to pick my poison rather then be subjected to one. They nerfed the holy hell out of experience in this phase.

I think your concern is a bit premature at this current point in the beta. you can do hunting log or level some crafting/gathering classes.  The quest mechanics aren't anything to complain about, because there is more to do. I think you'll find out yourself that the content is story driven based just like any Final Fantasy RPG game that you'll find on consoles.

I'm actually glad they stepped away from FFXI, and evolved into something more accessible.

i got the ps3 beta the other day. played 2 hours and its alright, would play it more if i had mates to play with. also still unsure on my purchase, $20 per month for sub fees is alot.
