Forums - Gaming - I'm planning to trade my PS Vita for a 3DS XL. Cunning decision or stupid?

I may have missed it in your post, but why do you want a 3DS XL when you already have a 3DS? You don't really provide any reasons for wanting to "upgrade" to a 3DS XL.

Why do people buy an iPhone 4s when they have an iPhone *previous iteration*? Oh and the difference between 101 and 94.2 is 6.8.

Some upgrade to the latest smartphone because of new features, better performance, etc. And some upgrade to the lastest smartphone just to say that the have the latest and greatest. What does the 3DS XL have that the 3DS doesn't, other than larger screen size?

You're asking people here if your decision to purchase an 3DS XL is cunning or stupid, yet you provide zero reason for wanting a 3DS XL when you already have a 3DS. So to answer your question, trading in your vita for a system you already own = stupid.

I agree. Trading Up makes way more sense.

But if he can't trade up then I don't blame him. There isn't much coming out for the Vita right now and he can get one later on.

I didn't reply the first time you said this but this is the second time you saidit. This statement is false at best. For a new system the current and upcoming line up is great..and this is with gamescom/TGS/Game heaven events coming up. And sony has a strong presense at gamescom every year compared to other two.

As I mentioned earlier, it's not a matter of not having games...it's about having games the person wants. Same thing I said in that earlier thread about (forgot who) asking about trading in the 3ds for a vita. It's just a matter of preference, nothing more nothing less.

So, before I get into the details I want to make clear that this thread is not meant to derail into a flame war nor do I intend to Troll PS Vita Fans. I like the device itself and am happy with it SO FAR. Now let me try to outline the parameters that led me to this decision:

1. I want a 3DS XL. I want it bad. I already own a 3DS and would trade it in in a heartbeat, but I am an ambassador and want to keep that status. Since gamestop wouldn't allow me to transfer my data I can't trade the 3DS in immediately but I could buy th XL and sell it seperately. But not only am I incredibly lazy I also don't really have the time right now to selling it myself via ebay or amazon. And they have a ridiculous quota on the profit I would make, which would leave me with more work for essentially not much more money, if at all. I also don't really have 200€ right now.

2. I want to cash in on the Gamestop deals in Germany since they are pretty good imho. So I was thinking about trading in my Vita instead. And I would gain immortality in the process since, as we all no, you can not kill that, which has no life....I'm sorry for that. Ok, moving on. Let me go into detail WHY I want to do this deal:

- For a PS Vita, Gamestop would only charge 49€ for a 3DS XL and on top of that INCLUDE a charging cable AND 20€ credit towards NSMB2. On top of that they are running a promotion which lets me trade in NSMB DS(I bought it for 13€ 3 months ago) for another 20€ off of NSMB2. The Gamestop employee told me that it would be cummulative, leaving me with NSMB2 for 5€. that's pretty rad imho.

-So they would directly give me 150€ for my Vita plus some exta stuff (charging cable, 20€ coupon). I bought my Vita about 2 weeks after europe launch USED in an Amazon warehouse deal for 190€ INCLUDING an 8GB memory card and the pre order stuff. That was a pretty sick deal, right? That's what I thought at that time so I spontaneausly ordered it. It's pretty much in mint condition and I put screen protectors on it the second I got it.  Since I can keep everything but the Vita itself I would essentially trade in my 160€ PS Vita for 150€ trade in value and get rid of the rest later when I have more time or hang on to it WHEN I MAY REBUY a PS Vita.

So do I hate my Vita and want to get rid of it? Not at all. But let me outline once again the pros and cons of the device FOR ME that leads me to the decision to get rid of it FOR NOW:

Pros:

-The PS VITA is very powerful and is technically superior in every way to the 3DS and in a lot of ways to the 3DS XL.

-The games look gorgeous.

-The device itself looks amazing.

Cons:

-I already bought and played every game that interests me, leaving me with essentially Monster Hunter Freedom Unite left to play. The games I have, Uncharted, GR, Unit 13 and MGS HD, do not really offer that much replay value and I'm not into Achievements to grind every platinum trophy.

-The next 3 months are pretty bleak concerning new games for the Vita. LBP at the end of september is pretty much the only game I am looking forward to. From the end of october on the line up starts to get really good and I am interested in AC:L, Soul Sacrifice and more stuff. But there is that other problem that

-From November on my wallet will pretty much belong to Nintendo. I pre ordered the Wii U and since I played my Vita almost exclusively at home (had it once with me at the lake, can't see shit on the screen when the sun shines), the Wii U is pretty much a direct competitor to the Vita for me, offers a bigger screen and better analog sticks.

-The OLED screen looks fantastic but I am a maniac and the 5000 hour lifetime of this screen is constantly running down in my head. I was totally freaking out when I played Monster Hunter Tri the other day with a friend and had the skype app running (which is awesome) to talk with him, since Wii speak is worse than garbage. The fricken screen just wouldn't turn off despite me not needing it and not making any inputs. This is bugging me big time, even if I would never reach 5000 hours of playtime. But then again, I am a monster hunter player and I sunk about 200 days into world of warcraft alone, so I know how fast those numbers can go up.

I am still very interested in the games the Vita will have to offer in the future but since nearly none of them are in the immediate vicinity I am thinking that it might be best to part ways for now and maybe get one again when the novelty of the Wii U has worn off and the price of the PS Vita goes down to a level where the deal I got will be pretty standard. AND THE 5000 HOUR TIME LIMIT WILL BE RESET THANK GOD.

Sooo, what do you think? I would like to know if my plan is sound, especially financially, or if I finally did go insane after all. So, stroke my back or shove me around, but keep it civil please.

Why don't you go buy one then. What the hell are you talking about? 5000 hour time limit?

PSVita doesn't have too many games coming out that he can't get on the PS3 or 360 in some variation. I never said they weren't quality or weren't good.

He would be better off selling the 3DS, but if that's not possible I don't see what's holding him back from selling the Vita. Unless he wants one of the few Vita exclusives.

Maybe he should wait until Sony says something at GamesCom. But I understand the feeling of wanting something now, as most people do. He might not want to wait for that.

no I made that after reading your post actually

and as far as OP is concerned if those 3 games were all that's interested him he was never interested in a Vita and should have never brought one

Which one? The one I made in reply to MUGEN.

If you were talking to me you should've quoted me.

Nope you said it doesn't have that many games coming to it, so I know exactly what you said. And I'm telling you that is flat out wrong. Even your modified statement is wrong.

It has exclusives (including new Ips) in addition the ports you speak of. I'm sure you are capable enough to look them up yourself, if not stop by the official thread and the others will fill you in. As for the ports and multiplat releases, some titles are either a better experience on the handheld or offer a different experience than the console version. Even now the system is filled with new IPs and exclusives and more are on its way.

Not sure why you are trying to convince me his choice is good here to be honest. I never suggested anything to him otherwise. The only difference between this and the trade in the 3ds for vita thread is that no one is attacking him. It's all about preferences in gaming. I do not have a need for a 3ds at least until it has several layton games released for it because I do not care much for most of the line up. That's just my personal preference. He has his own. If he doesn't care for vita titles then by all means...he should do what he wants to do. It's his money and assets afterall.

Oh and this has nothing to do with the topic at hand but gamescom is just 3 weeks or so away iirc. Should be good
