What is the biggest medal count ever at the Olympics? America is getting high with a few more days to go right?

no clue but usa will get less gold than as example china four years ago and if you count all medals usa will get maybe less than usa had four years ago but not sure about that

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Summer_Olympics_medal_table

and they can't reach 1980 numbers of soviet union and own numbers of 1984 without soviet union^^

Pasted from somewhere else, not entirely sure if the numbers are correct:
1980: Soviet Union (URS) 195 (western boycott)
1984: United States (USA) 174 (eastern boycott)
1992: Unified Team (EUN) 112 (non-boycott)

USA had 110 medals in Peking 2008.

94 medals at the moment. Will most probably go over 100. Still some medals to get for team USA, at least 3 medals are already secured (2 gold in basketball finals, 1 gold or silver in women's volleyball final). Plus track & field (last day tomorrow) and I bet a few more.

i always think about doping but then i remember that nowadays they are also all doped (i would say from almost every country). the difference is that they use one of the 100 dopings you can't find in the blood and in the past more used what you can find but still most got never catched.

i saw today alone some who won gold or were doped in the past and i'm not sure why they shouldn't be doped now and be still better than in the past with doping. gatlin, the winner in swimming, the winner in hammer throwing and so on...

Nobody deserves a medal in that 1500 womens race. Shite. 20 seconds slower than wr. What a mess.

Ye but when your country wins a gold and silver in that event, you really don't care. Like I'm sure you wouldn't care if Britain won a gold and silver.

I totally agree, but it was terrible to watch.

yes it was terrible to watch but then again this is the olympics where you run for gold and wr are a bonus rather than the usual pacemaker led races.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

When I think of 1988 Seoul, I don't think of the Russians first, I think of Ben Johnson who was responsible for the most spectacular doping case ever (he was so naive, his opponents were more clever or rather more lucky). I think of Carl Lewis who got the 100 m gold medal when Johnson was caught. Lewis later admitted that the US doping controls were very lax during his carer and he never cared about those missed doping controls of his anyway... I think of Linford Christie who won bronze (then silver) in 100 m behind Lewis. Christie was tested positive in Seoul 1988, just like Johnson, but he could still keep his silver medal, he was caught again 11 years later and eventually banned (but British officials said he's not guilty anyway and later they built a scuplture in memory of him in Manchester). Unlucky Johnson, a fallen hero ain't respeced, lucky Christie, some remain heroes even if the proof is there. I think of Florence Griffith-Joyner who was everybody's darling in 1988 and today we know she most probably doped herself to death.

It's never been just Soviet Union and GDR back in the day, it surely ain't just China today...
