Forums - Nintendo - Third-Party Wii U Launch Games Will Run At 1080p

Man I really don't care anymore about all this speculation bullshit. Just get the damn thing out already.

But I agree with zarx. Those PR reps can not be trusted. maybe the guy just ment fully HD in the context that the Wii U is the first Nintendo HD console and Batman will run HD too.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

you guys realise that the source for this article is a forum post by someone on GameFAQs right?

direct quote from the post
"Both Batman: AA and Assassin's Creed 3 will run at 1080p natively. The main rep showing off Batman confirmed the game was running Batman at 1080 or "Full HD" with a framerate above 30FPS."

In other words a PR rep regurgitated the "Full HD" line and this guy assumed that they meant 1080p native. I would wait until a reliable source starts reporting that the games are 1080p native rather than believing what a random forum poster says they were told by a PR rep who probably has no idea about anything technical of the games they are talking about.

Didn't you know that anonymous sources are only unreliable if they say something negative about the WiiU ? ;-D

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Well, Galaki won this round by far.

I am calling bullshit on this -- having Batman: AC nativity 1080p would require most of the in-game assets to be re-done, engine modifications, all of the DLC to be re-done ... it would essentially be a complete re-make of the game.

Ports of older games to the WiiU will be upscaled to 1080p, hell i wouldn't expect early PS4/Next-box games to be nativity 1080p since the developers will need to consider porting the games to PS3/360...

You do know what "native 1080p" means right? I mean CoD4 runs at 1080p on 360, but its a native 600p game -- 600p is what the game assets are created to conform with and how the 360 runs the game before scaleing the image displayed up to 1080p. I highly doubt Rocksteady made Batman: AC with native 1080p assets, then converted those assets to 720p/whatever native resolution they decided to use.

We all know 1080p on WiiU is weaker than PS3 in 720p, based on anonymous sources previously.
Think they can display more than 6 zombies on screen at once?

The official specs haven't been confirmed or released, we really know nothing and it's all speculation.

Actually the specs have been officially revealed by Nintendo.  http://www.computerandvideogames.com/351710/nintendo-releases-updated-wii-u-specs/

The only thing that isn't detailed is the GPU and we don't know how fast the CPU is. In short,  it's a tri-core CPU and 1.5gb RAM.

hang on i thought game assets were designed at ultra hd then resized down to like 720p native so the game could run at a steady 30fps.

well that is what i was told as a explanation why developing for next gen won't be a huge jump in costs because they doing it already and scaling down for release.

Pretty sure Reggie said it himself at the last E3 that the WiiU will be doing 1080P. But I doubt that's true, too. Reggie is just some random guy who's a NOA CEO, after all. I'll wait for more anonymous sources for confirmation.

KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK You are so funny XD I love your comments. lol

Does that mean those games look significantly better on Wii U than on competing systems like X360 or PS3 where they run at lower native resolution (still get upscaled to 1080p in final output)

I don't know that it matters unless the on-screen difference in fidelity and fluidity is noticeable improvement.

If the texturing, models, and other in game effects are locked in, and consistent across all platforms, you aren't going to notice that much difference.  You may get a bit cleaner image on the WiiU, but it isn't going to look noticably different than what you see now.  This is a reason why, often, next generation console titles early on usually don't look much better than the prior generation's stuff.
