Let me just say that I am shocked to see that over 30% of all voters picked a religion whos main prophet married an underaged child, not to mention that wasn't his only wife.

I did not see that coming.

I'm sure this one has been brought up many times before. Taking something out of its historical frame then measure it on today's standards is nothing more than a fabrication. Back then in the Arabian Peninsula, early marriage was acceptable and very common, otherwise, the prophet would have been criticized by his own people back then (not by us and today).

However, a simple research in many trusted historical sources ( Tarikh al-Tabari, tarikh dimashq, Al-Bidaya wa'l-Nihaya and many many more) show that the prophet married Aisha in the year 624 ( the marriage contract was written in 620 though). Aisha was born in the year 606, so she was 18 when she got married, not 9, the only reason many people believe that she was 9 is one historical source (Sahih al-Bukhari) which is believed to be the most trusted book of Hadith; nothing to do with history (follow the link if you are interested, it is in arabic though http://www.youm7.com/News.asp?NewsID=35802 ).

About Polygamy, it is still acceptable nowadays in Islam and many other cultures, however, it is a personal choice not essential... so.

Even though I didn't vote myself, I have to till you that your hostile stand against Islam is based on a weak and shallow foundation. I hope you take this as an advise friend, if you really seek better understanding about anything, don't build your view on one incident that you've heard of somewhere. You need to see / understand the whole picture .... life is not black and white.

I will admit that my first comment indeed is ignorant (in fact, I have no idea why I made it. One of my best friends is Muslim for crying out loud). I salute all Muslims who says that marriages such as Muhammed's marriage(s) should not be accepted today.

Islam if you want to know more about this religion i recommend you to see Zakir Naik and Yusuf Estes videos.

None, all religion has done is spawn death and suffering on a grand scale.

You are wrong. The people are the ones who spawn death. (Unless a certain Religion directly tells people to kill one another for some dumb reason.)

The thing is if religion never exsisted man would still kill and go to war because they are human. Greed for land and envy, the need for vengeance, wealth & power.

When you dig deep enough for the causes of most (if not every) war you will find religion has little to do with it but instead is used as the basis of it. It was and remains for some the ultimate motivator.

From the crusades which had more to do with the Byzantine and the Turks, and a land grab for Jerusalem to gain power and get one over the enemy to Iraq and Afganistan.

Northern ireland is a great example of religion picks up the blame. How two groups of people (one wanting independence, the other don't) came to be protrayed mainly as protestants vs catholics is beyond me.

OT: You cannot be serious Jay. What answers do you seriously expect? The muslim will say islam, the jew judiasm, the christian christianity etc.,

What is there to be gain from asking this question? If 25% say islam, 25% say christianity and 50% say hinduism will you become a hindu?

I am agnostic BTW.

The other thing you may want to think about if you really NEED a religion is not which one is right for you, but which one you think is objectively the best one out there. Otherwise, you're not willing to teach yourself anything, or learn morals, reflect upon yourself, etc. If you look for which religion is right for you personally, all you're looking for is something which upholds your pre-established beliefs. In other words, you wouldn't need religion if you want one tailor made for you because you obviously already have a system of beliefs you believe are valid and uncompromisable.

Babble babble bitch bitch rebel rebel party party sex sex sex and don't forget the violence. Blah blah blah got your lovey-dovey sad and lonely stick your stupid slogan in. Everybody sing along.

None is right. They are all wrong and the work of charlatons eager to get a piece of the fools pie. God doesnt exist, heaven and hell dont exist.

You are a group of atoms that will continue to exist after your consciouness and body fades.

Its the cold hard thruth. This whole religion thing doesnt help anyone in the big scheme of things and its only an excuse to kill and commit suicide. We would be better off without it.

I don't want to praise a false Lord and burn for an eternity for unintentionally ignoring the actual God.

That is my main problem with most religions; that they are effectively scaring and bullying you into following their ideals. You can draw paralells with dictatorial regimes: rewarding their followers for their faith whilst condeming those who disobey them.

Are you seeking God?

If Christianity is correct, then if you are seeking God, you will find Him.

"Ask and you shall receive; knock and the door shall be opened unto you; seek and you shall find."

Have you ever tried asking God for guidance?

Also, you won't find the answer by asking people.  You should go straight to the source and ask.
