I'm sure this one has been brought up many times before. Taking something out of its historical frame then measure it on today's standards is nothing more than a fabrication. Back then in the Arabian Peninsula, early marriage was acceptable and very common, otherwise, the prophet would have been criticized by his own people back then (not by us and today).
However, a simple research in many trusted historical sources ( Tarikh al-Tabari, tarikh dimashq, Al-Bidaya wa'l-Nihaya and many many more) show that the prophet married Aisha in the year 624 ( the marriage contract was written in 620 though). Aisha was born in the year 606, so she was 18 when she got married, not 9, the only reason many people believe that she was 9 is one historical source (Sahih al-Bukhari) which is believed to be the most trusted book of Hadith; nothing to do with history (follow the link if you are interested, it is in arabic though http://www.youm7.com/News.asp?NewsID=35802 ).
About Polygamy, it is still acceptable nowadays in Islam and many other cultures, however, it is a personal choice not essential... so.
Even though I didn't vote myself, I have to till you that your hostile stand against Islam is based on a weak and shallow foundation. I hope you take this as an advise friend, if you really seek better understanding about anything, don't build your view on one incident that you've heard of somewhere. You need to see / understand the whole picture .... life is not black and white.
