I agree with the list except Mario and maybe Tomb Raider if it can redeem itself on upcoming TR: Underworld.

Almost all Mario games in the past 10 years have been good-excellent with only a few mediocre titles mixed in.

I would add Pokemon to the list. Its time to retire the little guys, its been fun, but you can only add so many more Pokemon and resell it.

That, and every Pokemon game since the first has been, well, basically the exact same game re-packaged for a new system.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

I disagee with the Mario and Medal of Honour games. The Wii one is great.

I also disagree that Call of Duty keeps getting better.

COD2 was awesome, COD3 sucked, COD4 was awesome, and COD5 will likely suck.

Sure even number call of duty games keep getting better though.

Though Pacman and frogger do need to be released on next get consoles.  I think XBLA has that covered for both right?

Actually, guys, he doesn't even say that Mario games are bad. In fact, he implicitly admits many of them are very good: "We wouldn't ask Disney to euthanize Mickey Mouse, and Mario doesn't need to disappear either."

His problem is entirely with the fact that there are so many Mario games. He just wants new Nintendo characters. My guess is that he'd be completely fine with Super Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers if they happened to feature other characters. It isn't that Mario games are bad, it's just that he's personally tired of seeing Mario, whether his games are good or not.

I'm not saying that's a fair argument, I'm just saying that's what he's saying.

You're absolutely right. But what he says, is something i don't understand. Usually the thing he was saying, only means he haven't played the games. One of the reasons why Mario franchise is so strong is because people know what to expect from Mario games. Game being "Mario game" means good gameplay for fun, something that isn't meant to be taken seriously (maybe with the exception of Smash Bros.). There's no realism in Mario games and it's never have even been the intention in Mario games. With Mario games you know what you get and they still surprise you. If the Mario games would be made with some other characters, and with different franchise, you'd always would have to wonder what kind of game is it. Think of it, how many would have expected different kind of game, if Strikers would have been just Strikers Charged Football instead of Mario Strikers Charged Football. And if Nintendo would be milking the franchise, it would propably have been dead for ages. I'm not arguing you, i was just trying to give a view why i see his way of thinking flawed. @Ion-storm: Since we talk about Nintendo, i would have them both, a new IP and a new game in Mario series. You see, Nintendo makes both, sequels (which by the way are in many occasions more different to their predecessors than most companies new IP:s) and new IP:s.

You can't do everything at once. Nintendo only have so many developers to go around. If you make game x with a set of developers they can't be working on game y as well. Aside from tools and tech people naturally.

Seeing as how every game Nintendo makes with mario in it sells like a milllion plus, maybe they should stick mario on every games except Wii fit, Wii play and Wii sports.

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

The list is basically an amalgamation of the most whored out mascots in the industry. Mario most certainly fits the bill. You might love Mario to death, but remember every rehash of the Mario license in another form is another reason Nintendo doesn't have to develop new characters, and more importantly creative franchises. Mario might be in some great games, but he is also in some of the outright worst games to grace the market place.

Look at the some of the fat plumbers past employments. Mario does not result in a good game. Actually it often results in a bad game, or a game most of us wouldn't be caught dead playing. By all means take a look at his past exploits. I think the author is correct Mario is far too exploited, and while you might say Mario Kart, or Brawl. Let me ask you this would the game in some way be worse without Mario at the helm.

A quality game is a quality game even if Mario isn't smeared all over it.

I agree with most except Tomb Raider and Spyro. Tomb Raider has always been a good series, not as popular as before but it still is pretty good, and Lara Croft is an icon now. As for Spyro, it has loads of potential! Spyro just needs 1 awesome game and it could become a great franchise.

Spyro was awesome back when it was Insomniac now that it's Vivendi (Sierra) it's just terrible, same thing goes for Crash.

the complaint about new games from nintendo and less mario-related games is retarded. A lot of those mario cash-ins aren't even made by nintendo, but third party devs who want to cash in. (mario hoops 3 on 3, mario baseball, etc)

I disagree with Mario. Sure there's a lot of games, but other than Mario Party these are quality games.

I think they're a little biased, notice all of the games are the hardcore games (except Guitar Hero)

Nintendo fan, though i also like the PS1-era Sony

Sales Predictions (+-.5mil) at end of fiscal 2007

Wii- 23 million- Brawl will hopefully make it higher.
360-20 million- GTA IV's release date will be a big factor
PS3- 12 million- Same as 360, MGS4 also big factor
