Forums - Nintendo - Gearbox Really Likes Wii U & Thinks Borderlands 2 Would Be Fantastic On It

Interesting indeed.

Developer Gearbox never held back in their praise for the Wii U. They were one of the first developers to come out and fully support the new Nintendo console with Aliens Colonial Marines. In fact, they’ve said numerous times that the Wii U version of Aliens Colonial Marines will be the best looking one.

In a new interview with Dealspwn, Gearbox founder Brian Martel says he thinks the Wii U is a “really cool platform”, and that it’ll be interesting to see how Microsoft and Sony respond to the touchscreen controller with their next gen consoles. They have sort of responded already, with SmartGlass and Sony’s Vita cross-play.

“If Borderlands 2 was on the Wii U, the thing I would be most excited about is inventory management: it would be amazing on that” Martel said about the upcoming Borderlands 2 first person shooter. He added that the artwork on the Wii U would look better because the console can handle higher resolution textures. Borderlands 2 is the sequel to the highly successful Borderlands, and is a cross between a first person shooter and role playing game, where players continuously gather loot and items.

So far, Gearbox is waiting for publisher 2K Games to give a green light for the Borderlands 2 Wii U port. However, 2K Games isn’t in a hurry, they’re waiting to see what happens with the Aliens Colonial Marines Wii U version before investing in more ports.

I think that Nintendo has won over Gearbox Software.

Not only are they bringing over Aliens: Colonial Marines, but they speak positively of the idea of bringing over Borderlands 2 as well (and just need the green light from 2K Games), and they speak glowingly of the Wii U itself at every turn.

Expect Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 to be confirmed for Wii U soon, being a game made by Gearbox and published by Ubisoft, both clearly supporting the Wii U heavily (the reason for it not being confirmed yet is likely that Nintendo said not to confirm any title not expected to release in the "launch window" - Aliens: Colonial Marines was a special case, having been confirmed at E3 2011).

Gearbox likes every system and thinks Borderlands 2 would be fantastic on it.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Mostly this.

They are a Co. and the more projects they have, the better for them.

Although that doesn't exclude the fact that Borderlands 2 on WiiU could work well.

I wonder if this is one of the third party games yet to be announced

Are they going to ask Nintendo to pay them to port it over too?

Given that their test game will be Aliens, which they say it will be the best version and has the GamePad with the screen to use it as the motion detector (they said that it even *bips* when something is detected), it should be very easy to do please them.

Borderlands was decent enough. Include Wiimote controls and I'll buy it.
