Damn it, did I miss a picture of a penis on VGC?

Anyway, I think the new PS3 slim looks decent but not great. I am happy it doesn't look great because I can feel satisfied with my old slim that I love.

16GB version, now that is crazy. Some games demand a 8GB install. Are you supposed to only play 1-2 games at a time? That would suck.

It's a win for Sony though if they can price it at $149. That's unbelievably cheap for a PS3 and a Must Have for casuals who don' own a PS3 yet.

what game need 16g?

You have to install a lot of game son PS3, which takes up quie a bit of space. And you can say goodbye to digital downloads with 16gb unless yousay hello to an external hard drive.

oop, I meant to typpe 8g. Slimbeasrt say a game need 8g alone. What game is that?

well they never called the revision as ps3 slim officially iirc..so this is their actual slim

not a fan of the top..but the rumors are they even have a 16GB version. Pricing could be very interesting..and the timing of the release (wiiU launch period?)

MUGEN, you should put the OPs info in your post since the OP is banned.

And also @Burning Typhoon. Sorry about the delay..just got home. Updated my post with all the info in the OP :)

Oh, yeah..  Sorry.  No rush, I didn't even see Jay's post.. I was making a suggestion.

But, here's a question...  Do you think this is going to create a PS3 generation gap between easrly adopters, and newer adopters (basically everyone that had a PS2).  Do you think this trend will continue into PS4, where only a third of people will get one until it drops to the 150 dollar price point?  Is it too late for PS3 to do PS2 numbers?

well at least to some of that portion yes. New buyers will be either older users buying the new version of the hardware, people with limited funds getting one and people who are skeptical of ps3 titles buying one. Of these some of the skeptics will be impressed enough to join the party early on next gen. THose with limited funds will exist well into next gen, especially in smaller markets that sony do so well. It is the same situation as now since ps2 is STILL selling rather well. That won't change next gen. The good thing however sony won't be too late (at least I'm hoping they won't be) to the markets as this gen, so markets like Europe especially, they will have a very good chance of taking the lead rather quickly and establish an even stronger market there. Getting the skeptics and low income folk will just only serve to expand the playstation brand name among them. So sony won't mind at all if the ps3 (like the ps2) keeps selling for a long time next gen as well. Besides it will be pure profit for them lol

What you mean to ask is what game takes 15gb? And that game would be Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition. 15gb!

It's probably one of the exceptions, most games probably only do a couple gb or don't even need an install/optional install.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

i dont think i've ever seen an install bigger than 10GB. downloading digital games however could take a shit load of space. infamous 2 took 15GB alone and LBP2 and Motorstorm were around 6-7GB i think.

You do know there are PS2 games on the PSN store that are exact copies of the original ones and are emulated, right?

Hmm.

It is possible that specific games can be recompiled with little effort to run on the PS3. This is not the same as emulation, and can only be on a case-by-case basis depending on the games that are chosen.

I'm willing to bet dollars for donuts that those games if ripped and burned to disc, could not be run on a modified PS2. Those files will only work on PS3s. If I am right, then they are not running on an emulator.

Recompiled?

Yeah, you take the source code of the original, make a few changes to support the new hardware (usually writing a piece of middleware that changes calls designed for the PS2 hardware into calls for the PS3), and then compile the code so that it's executable on the new machine.

This obviously cannot work for all titles, as the new hardware cannot mimic all of the calls that PS2 software used to make.

Sony have already said that the downloadable titles cannot use save files created using the disc version, this implies that it isn't a pure emulation.

Doesn't make any sense to me, from what I've heard, a game either has to be ported, emulated or possibly a middle ground between those two.

If "recompiling" is so easy and low-level, then couldn't they just tweak the emulator a little more so the PS3 can play the exact PS2 version?

Does anyone else here just skip through the comments and scroll down for pictures?

It would be nice if all the pictures would be on the first page, and there should be a comment saying that those all the pictures they have at the time.

Gran Turismo 5.

For full install GT5 neads at maximum 10GB but for no install it needs just the patchs (~1GB).

After you played the game you can delete the patchs or game data.
