Forums - Microsoft - Xbox "has a shot at owning the living room"

""In the past five years, Xbox went from number three to number one [in the home video-game console race], and we took Xbox Live from nothing to north of 40 million users," Mattrick said."

That quote bothers me on many levels. These American companies have no standards, which is a large reason I like Sony far more. Their culture requires a much higher standard of expectation. And man, they don't even realize that the US market isn't the biggest market for "gamers". All because they sell the best in the US by far, they have to be so damn ignorant? Very much bothers me.

Don Mattrick is an blithering idiot and Gordon is headed in that direction as well. Comparing Xbox Live to Itunes? What a jackass. Zune was a failure. I highly doubt that Xbox Live brings in as much yearly money as Itunes on a yearly basis. They sell movies, shows, games galore on that thing and its revenue is publicized by the media on a level Xbox Live will probably never see.

You highly doubt?  Dude with Xbox live Gold alone they make 2 billion in revenue.     Itunes is bigger yeah but possible not that big like you imagined 4-6 billions in revenue for the last year.

No offense bro but the Xbox Live subscription numbers will be dropping and Microsoft will keep doing 2 month giveaways to keep it alive. 2 months for $2, Subscribe to Hulu Plus and get two months free. If Microsoft wouldn't stand in the way of peoples subscriptions with Xbox Live gold they would probably get Hulu Plus based on its value alone, not as it being a selling point of Xbox Live.

Not going to argue about that but it is fact that Xbox live is one of the bigger succeses like Itunes the last years their are not that many who come close (you can find sure a few though).

Xbox Live is definitely a success. I wish Microsoft would pull the wool from peoples eyes though.

Writing from my phone.

XBL is a gigantic success and MS outsold every other TV connected device last year. People need to read my signature. These are official statements and with all respect to VGC, They are the ones that matter and Manufacturers get money for. What makes you think XBL numbers are going down? Halo 4 is just around The corner ... I think the next time we get Xbl numbers we will probably be around 45 million.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I think the SmartGlass is just coming too late. The 360 has been out for around 7 years; I don't see this helping them that much really...

Lol everything you see on 360 now is just MS gearing up for Xbox 8.

Xbox had a chance at my living room but screwed it up.
Biggest reason: no Wifi out of the gate.
PS3 has the living room with blu-ray, netflix and supporting 24mbps m2ts from my video camera.
Since I'm out of hdmi inputs in the living room I doubt that's going to change.

I know, but it's not going to be here for at least another 18 months, and what will happen in that time? O.o

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

"With Smart Glass we'll add a very simple idea: context and intelligence and sharing between different devices."

Ok they are 30 Millions behind the Nintendo Wii
Sony is outselling them for 4 years in a row now - Only the CoD and Halo month every year is saving them(shows how pathetic the whole console race is if you can maintain your place thanks to such an easy to impress community) every time otherwise Sony would have overtaken them in a long time. But the truth is Sony is selling more worldwide and the PS3 is the console were the most Software is sold nowadays.

They aren't Number 1 anywhere except on the things were you are forced to use their stuff(Windows on PC for games cause Apple is to stupid otherwise everyone would switch to them)

And please don't call me a fanboy - Those are facts.Nintendo is Number 1 and Sony is outselling them but Microsoft can keep the distance cause of 1 strong month per year in the USA with either CoD or Halo.
This is the truth and no one can deny that.On the other side Microsoft is talking always about being number one RIGHT NOW even if the numbers show they aren't.

Well, I'm not sure who I'd call you a fanboy of anyway - but you're definitely a hater. Make any excuses you want for any and all the products you like - MS will continue to laugh all the way to the bank. You can choose to ignore other areas where MS is #1 at the moment if you like - peripheral sales, online revenue, etc.

I like how you claim the only reason windows has market share is because Apple is "too stupid". A nice way to paint a negative light on MS clearly putting out the best OS for the average person. The competition is "too stupid" to invest billions in an attempt at making something better.

And claiming that CoD annually "saves" the Xbox is to ignore the fact that it being a multiplatform title, it's the fact that it's on a superior online service that pulls in greater numbers of people.

Fact is, this generation the Xbox brand engaged 2 entrenched opponents, it had a much larger overarching strategy for profit than Nintendo (developing an online presence and taking over many functions in the living room), which is panning out quite well, and a much more well thought out and executed business plan than Sony (who's best case scenario this generation is breaking even on the PS3) - and yet your post makes it seem like they should have no claim to success at all.
