The Wii U Gamepad is the one with the touch screen, not the Classic Controller Pro. It is there for the exact same reason as it was on the Wii. Its an extra device made for convience with old(classic) games hence the name "Classic Controller". It is uncessarry.

Most games will use the either the Wii Mote or the Touch Screen Controller.

One certiainly could make the argument that the Wii U Tablet is a rip off of the Ipad exept it is neither a tablet nor a ripoff of the Ipad. It was the first thing people asked when they saw the controller, but Miyamoto made it clear that it was completely coindicental.

The design for the Wii U controller is just like the bottom half of the NDS which came out before the Ipad was even thought of. Functionality wise and design wise it is just a regular controller with a touch screen in it. It uses the same touch screen technology as the DS which is a completely different technology than what is used for the Ipad.

It was decided upon that they were going with that controller for the next console in 2007. Then the tablet boom accured.

So, basicly its just a giant DS, but only the bottom screen. Where's your innovation now?

Its more than just a Giant DS and haven't you watched any videos? The DS worked as one contiguous thing that was split in half. The UPad allows you take conole games anywhere in the house. It allows you to sync up with the screen like in the Demo where it showed the person holding the screen flat parallel to the T.V. and wiping shurikens at the tevelision. It allows you to do things like be an overloard in a mutliplayer game without anyone being able to see what you are doing. It allows for panaramic view within the game. The screen itself is also much higher qaulity.

It has many innovative uses and I'm sure there are more to come.
