Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: We must 'differentiate' to survive against smartphones, tablets

lol, so they release a console with a tablet controller?

Around the Network

It's going to be interesting to see how the public reacts to the Wii U. I hope Nintendo can continue their long streak of success.

They just need to release the Virtual Boy 2. Also, they could sue Google for every dollar they made off GBA, N64, SNES, etc emulators. They can also sue Apple for not taking down the illegal copy of Pokemon that went to #1 the few days it was on the market.

At least they still realize they need to be different. Releasing software in a more timely manner would help also.

Duh... Look, nintendo can no longer compete with Sony/MS. The wii was the solidification of a one way strategy that is no longer working. With Sony's Gaikai acquisition and rumors ramping up about xbox720 it begs the question, is there room for nintendo?

Only recently announcing a "unified" online strategy, six years too late...doesn't paint a bright future for nintendo. We''ll see though, let's wait for wiiu sales data before we drive the final nail lol.

Nintendo is still topping charts without even trying. Nintendo has made is clear again and again that they care nothing about Sony and Microsoft aside from those two companies ripping off their ideas and creations. The fact that you and everyone else have to combine them together to go against Nintendo (2 companies just to equal 1) shows just how superior Nintendo is to them in the gaming market right now. Sony and Micrsoft are not nor have they ever been allies.

NIntendo is doing what they always have.

Keep going with the Nintendo timeline and you'll get the Xbox 360 ripoff.

The Wii U Classic Controller Pro is just a reviewion of the Wii Classic COntroller Pro with the analogs in the same positoing as the Touch Sceen controller for the Wii U and a fatter bottom. There is no 360 controller rip off anywhere as the 360 is just a rippoff of the Gamecube and Dreamcast controller. How can you rip off your own creation?

Secondly, its just an auxillary controller for more traditional games, once again, just like the Classic Controller Pro for the Wii. The redesign was all about comfort just like the original Classic Controller to Classic Controller Pro redesign. It had nothing to do with copying another company.

So you agree that the Wii U gamepad is not innovative since its just a revision of the Classic Controller Pro with analog sticks. One could also make the argument that the Wii U tablet is a rip off of the iPad (or whomever was first with tablet gaming). They just added buttons to it.

The Wii U Gamepad is the one with the touch screen, not the Classic Controller Pro. It is there for the exact same reason as it was on the Wii. Its an extra device made for convience with old(classic) games hence the name "Classic Controller". It is uncessarry.

Most games will use the either the Wii Mote or the Touch Screen Controller.

One certiainly could make the argument that the Wii U Tablet is a rip off of the Ipad exept it is neither a tablet nor a ripoff of the Ipad. It was the first thing people asked when they saw the controller, but Miyamoto made it clear that it was completely coindicental.

The design for the Wii U controller is just like the bottom half of the NDS which came out before the Ipad was even thought of. Functionality wise and design wise it is just a regular controller with a touch screen in it. It uses the same touch screen technology as the DS which is a completely different technology than what is used for the Ipad.

It was decided upon that they were going with that controller for the next console in 2007. Then the tablet boom accured.

So, basicly its just a giant DS, but only the bottom screen. Where's your innovation now?
