woah are they serious? they "only" had 10k of these 99 dollar packages and when they reached it they just increased it to 20k? no clue how you call that in english, maybe "fake shortage" to increase the interest and to sell more at the beginning because people think if they wait to long they won't get it anymore. and as more they sell at beginning then as more attention it will get because of high numbers and with that they will sell even more^^

Um. More than likely that was an estimated Production Run. They have probably done nothing more than make a dozen or a few dozen prototypes.

It's too bad I don't have the cash lying around, I could have gotten in when there were some dev kits left. Looks like I will have to buy at full price.

Every console is a dev kit, according to the things they have said

what does the number of prototypes have to do with "we say we only have 10k and when we reach that number we simply increase it to 20k and in few hours maybe to 30k or so instead of saying 30k from beginning"?

i don't say they can produce millions until march, but they could change the number from 10k to 20k in a minute after they sold the 10k. why exactly couldn't they say 20k  from start then if they seem to know they can produce 20k? ask mr. marketing, he would explain you why letting people think they have to buy as fast as possible let's them buy it as fast as possible instead of waiting maybe a week or so.

Is there somewhere they said "We had 10k, oh but now we have 20k, and hey uh, we might have 30k too?" Where?

If you are _infering_ that from them just increasing the 10k to 20k for the $99 pledge, then i'm saying you are making the wrong assumption. They don't necessarily _have_ 10k or 20k or any number lying around at all right this second. They at first made the commitment, from their original $950,000 goal to only make 10k for the $99 pledge. Now that it looks like they have _already_ burned through that pledge 2x. They can safely increase that commitment to a higher ammount. I daresay based on all the buzz, they may uncap the $99 pledge entirely.

I don't see a revolution here... but as this Kickstarter shows, there's a decent-sized niche for this kind of console. I myself am thinking about getting one, if I can still afford a Wii U. Vita might have to wait until next year, but I'm waiting on LBP and Soul Sacrifice anyway.

they call it limited reward right? so calling something limited just to increase the limited number when they reached it is a lie. they said "limited to 10k" and then they increased the numbers when they sold the limited amount. people buy something fast when they think it is limited, if they wouldn't see that there are only 350 more avaiilable they wouldn't buy it without thinking maybe twice about their purchase if they knew there will be minimum 10k more if they will reach the 10k. they just do it because they don't want to be the "idiot" who waited too long.

they could make it like others, just writing they need 1 million dollars and say one will cost 99 dollars. without "only 10k available" just to increase the number when they reach the 10k. they knew that they will be able to build more than 10k if they will reach that number. why can't they say 20k from beginning then?

The _will_ need to explain, but the simple explentation is that they did not account for the project being so popular. That said, 20k will not likely be enough. It could go as much as 30-50k. If the possibility of using it as a dev kit is true, I will end up buying a couple myself.

sry but it was on all gaming sites and many tech sites on the whole planet since a week ago until today, i even opened a thread about it here...as if they wouldn't have known it and had only mistakenly said "limited to 10k". and there isn't an explanation to call something limited if it isn't limited. i wonder if they will increase that in some hours again. that would be really a joke. 11am (or so) "hey we have a limited number of 10k"...2pm "ok limited to 20k"....5pm "ok limited to..."

"Developers can wave farewell to the roadblocks of bringing a console game to market. Anyone can make a game: every OUYA console is a dev kit. No need to purchase a license or an expensive SDK."

It's on the kickstart page

Ok man. Go ahead and be outraged. I'll just continue to not care and be happy that they don't just shut out potential backers by saying, "oh sorry, we can't sell you any more, even though we technically can by just upping our production run." The fact is, they started the kickstarter today and going by your shtick, would have had to end it 12 hours into it.

Anyway, thanks Khuutra. Yeah looks like ill be buying a couple of them for our dev team.

Bought one already, will have to talk to my team tomorrow if we want to pony up for more.
