Forums - General Discussion - Young Justice Season 2

So being jobless going in a week and having a lot of free time, I decided to catch up on some T.V. watching.  Since I was busy at my previous job and was working long days I couldn't watch much, or play much for that matter.  So I've been having marathon viewings of Young Justice and Avatar.  I have about 4 episodes left of the first season to watch.  I went online to see if they started season 2, and I got some really bad information; they decided to do a time skip.  Now this bothers me cause there was a lot left to do with the old team.  Artemis and Dick going to school together would have been good times, school drama with Connor and M'gann.  Character development for Zatanna after loosing Zatara, etc.  Then they threw that all out the window, M'gann and Connor broke up, M'gann became a bit relentless (Does she still say "Hello Megan"?)  Artemis and Wally left the good fight (And I really liked Artemis' character).  They decided to add double the amount of heroes to the show, which after watching Justice League Unlimited, isn't a good idea.  So I ask you, the people of vgchartz who watched most of the second season, should I continue watching or should I drop the show after the first season?  Should I check into the Young Justice comics to get my fill?  I should add that most of my concerns for this time skip, is that I was really looking foward to all the high school drama, ala Spectacular Spider-man.  That and the fact that Dick's wise cracking as Robin is a tough act for Tim to follow.

I watch a lot of television(online) So during the summer months I quickly run out of things to watch, so I continued watching it mainly due to having nothing else on.

Overall I am upset with the time skip but as long as they don't do it again and fill in what happened at the end of season one. I will forgive them. I enjoyed the first season, and some of the twist in season 2 are kind of fun. I wont spoil it for you but one twist, that turned into a double twist, I wished would have stayed as a single twist. Would have been far more interesting to watch.

I am also a bit upset on how neatly season 1 of Legend of Korra ended. Doesn't give me a good overal sense of scope like the original series. However I still enjoyed it for the most part.

I've been watching Avatar so I can ease in into Korra, it's just while I was marathoning Avatar my dad started watching it with me, so I feel guilty watching it without him.  That was the reason why I started watching Young Justice, is to watch something while my dad is at work, plus he hasn't shown as much interest in Young Justice like he has with Avatar.  But back on topic, I was reading in another forum, that Weisman actually wants another time skip for season 3, if he gets it.  Though he said it wasn't going to be as long as 5 years.  Like I'm not against the time skip, it's just I felt there was so much more they could have done with the original team still.  Plus them adding more characters annoys me as I felt they nailed it with Young Justice.  I mean, I remember when Justice League was running, they were always complaining that they didn't know how to write for 7 characters and they were going to start making stories based with smaller teams of the 7 and I was like "Really?  This isn't the first show that has multiple characters in a team, why are you having trouble?" So I think Young Justice nailed that perfectly, they rarely had to reduce the team, they always knew how to split them up and have multiple story arcs running per episode.  Them adding double the amount of characters really kills the time characters have for development.  I think I wouldn't have cared had the second season play through without the time skip, and then do the time skip for season 3, after they've exhausted the character developments for the current roster.  There was so much set up for all the characters, and all that growth thrown out the window.  I guess I'm more dissapointed with the fact that I was looking foward to so much for the next season, but they've killed it all.  I guess I'll give the second season a chance once it finishes up.  But I might be better off stopping at the season 1 finale and just live in ignorance to what happens after.  Does anyone know if the comics follow the same time skip?

I agree.  It's not that I am against a time skip but against the wasted story developement.  The fact the time skip was so long made season 1 feel like a bit of wasted time.  While things are still entangled with season 1, so much has changed it feels like the whole plot from season 1 was just trashed and they came up with a new one that somewhat uses stuff from season 1.   A lot of wasted character story arcs that could have been used.

Season 2 alone is fine, it just feels like were starting a new story and theres some backstory that will be filled in with time.  I do dislike the amount of characters as it messes up with the pacing.  Gives a LOST(loved the show) problem.  Where one week we follow one group of people and the next week a different group.   A time skip of a year would be fine but just don't make it so long so we feel like we missed out on so much.

Yes, you're right.  I actually have a feeling Young Justice was going to get cancelled.  The art quality and animation is very good, but looks very expensive.  It's as good as those movie's DC has been pumping out.  The decision for this time warp happened half way through the first series' airing so I'm guessing merchandise sales were weak as I'm assuiming ratings were high.  Plus they rebranded the show, which is never a good sign.  I'm guessing season 2 was planned for later seasons, or to ease the characters into what this season currently is, and Weisman had used a time skip to get to there.  Very dissapointing. I love Lost too by the way, best show I have ever watched.

the time has everyone scratching their heads has it seems like they solved nothing in those 5-6 years until recently, and it seems to be creating more questions than answers...it just looks like they put in the time skip to add more characters...

@arcane
I was actually looking at this a bit more, they actually cancelled their toy line for the show. The show's merchandise was probably really lagging and the time skip was done to add more characters as you said. I guess they figured with more characters they'd get more sales with merchandising. But I think it screwed the show over in the long run. I personally think the show would have been cancelled already had they not needed something to fill in the "DC Hour".

yeah, the supposed season finale didn't even fell like a season finale, I hope the show doesn't get cancelled as it seems to be the spiritual successor to Teen Titans; which was a really good  show(american based heroes with a j-rock vibe) and I really don't know why that show was cancelled. YJ has the potential to be good they just need to iron out the many wrinkles they threw in as the first season was great.

Weren't there a few episodes left in the second season? In a way I hope it doesn't get cancelled, but I'm really pissed at the show. There was so much I was looking forward too; Robin, Zatanna, and Barbara love triangle, Robin and Artemis going to school together, M'gann cheerleading, Connar fitting into high school life, Zatanna dealing with her father's loss. SOOO much I wanted to see, and we're never going to get it now. Unless they can make an in-between season to tie season 1 and 2 together. I'm a very sad man :'(.

Not canceled http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Young_Justice_episodes

20 episodes coming back in september

At first I was pissed about the time skip, because Kaldur and Kid Flash (My two favorites) left the team, but it starting to grow on me and I enjoy the plot twists in this season more than the ones in the first. I'm also starting to think that their might be a reversal in time at some point due to Impulse's arrival. If not, I hope they at least bring back Kid Flash and Kaldur (Never really left) to the team.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

Looks like Young Justice is getting cancelled...
