You know how they say we can only use 20% of our brains? Well I took this pill that lets me use ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of my brain's capability. Needless to say, I invested in IBM.

Wait, so you acted out your own role? Well, I stand corrected and extremely impressed. But I won't apologize to c03. He had no way of knowing that with the given information.

Ha, you call yourself smart, and yet fail to notice the details.

Bradley Cooper/Montana has the same fiery grace as Amaterasu. It had to be the same person.

I like to think I know more about video games than the average "gamer". But I don't necessarily think that makes me a better person. Rather, I care enough about games to look up information on my own, through sites such as these. Most people I know (some of my friends included) only play what is popular at the moment. If you tell them game X is popular they will love it. If you tell them game Y is unpopular, they will hate it. They have no opinions of their own when it comes to gaming. So when discussing games with them, yes, I have a certain arrogance about me.

But to other enthusiasts such as myself (and everyone here) I don't act arrogant at all, usually i'm eager to see what I can learn from them. Basically I see the "sheep mentality" as a form of laziness, and sometimes I feel a bit more superior because I don't fall into the habit of believing what everyone else does, for the sake of fitting in.

What do you think caused you to not follow the sheep mentality? How come you think the sheep mentality is lazy as opposed to your friends? Was it a particular game you played that was unpopular and it compelled you to start researching more unique games? Because that's what happened to me.

I feel that's hard to answer without telling my life story lol, but i'll try to condense it as much as I can.

It was my love for unpopular games ever since I was young (By unpopular, I mean the other kids at school havn't even heard of it). When I was in grade school for example, I was introduced to, and fell in love with the Final Fantasy franchise and jrpgs in general. I was literally 5 or 6 and at the time I didn't go online and visit game related sites such as this, so I had no idea that FF and in particular FF7 was so popular and well recieved. All I had to judge the likeability of a game was my peers, and none of them had even heard of Final Fantasy. I told some of my friends about jrpgs (FF7 in particular) and they literally said "I never heard of it, it must suck" or "There's no way it's better than game X, everyone I know plays that!" ect.. Then of course, everyday seeing this conversation play out "Game X is like, the best game ever! My brothers play it and they love it so much!". I was always pissed off when someone I KNEW didn't even play games (because they had said they didn't) said one game is better than another or one game is the best game ever because they are simply going off what they hear others talk about.

At first I just shrugged the behavior off but after +10 Years of seeing the exact same behavior play out every. single. day. It started to really piss me off. I wasn't an unpopular nerd either. I was just as social and had just as many friends and everyone else. From the kids I saw reguarly at school, to the ones I had from playing baseball for years, I had plenty of friends from all over the board. The jocks, the artistic type, the music lovers whatever, they ALL did the same damn thing. "Game X is popular so it's obviously better than game Y which I have never heard off". It took me awhile (this gen) to finally realize the concept of "the sheep mentality" and I began to take notice of it for things other than gaming. Such as phones, music, and movies.

I think it's lazy because they are content with just doing or believing what everyone else says without having knowledge about alternatives. They do what everyone else does because they want to fit in and be "cool". Now, that in itself is a little dissapointing but It makes me so mad when those same people attack something else without knowing about it, using only the particular items popularity as ammunition in the argument. If i disagree with someone about something (which I do politely) I use facts and objective statements to prove my point. They rely on subjective things and of course "Who cares about that, nobody even know what that is".

So many people I knew earlier this gen HEAVILY preferred one console to another. So I would talk to them about a game that's an exclusive to another console and they thought the game sounded great! Ther were honestly excited for it and if I showed them a trailer they were so estatic. Then I told them it was only on Console B instead of A and they went "Oh, well who cares". Wooooow, they were genuinely interested in the game but since it was on a console that they and all their other friends didn't have they now had to pretend to not be excited by it or more dissapointingly, even bad mouth it later. I'd always go "lol okay dude, your loss" Also, i've started to notice that people who don't follow the herd are actually much more interesting and fun to be around than those that do. Seriously, I'm not saying EVERYONE who follows the herd is superfical (some are my friends) but to be honest, from my observations, most of them are. I mean, it makes sense that someone who bases their likes, decisions, and opinions off everyone else would be more superficial than someone who likes to find answers for themselves.

Don't get my wrong, I'm not someone who rebels against everything. If the popular choice is one that I also prefer, then I will still prefer that choice. It's just honestly, I find that most of the time the popular or "cool" choice is something i'd like to have nothing to do with. Basically gaming is what made me realize that the popular choice isn't always the best choice. I've now taken that principle and applied it to other things in my life. Oddly enough, most of my friends would say i'm rather intelligent or knowledgable about many things (especially games). Sorry for the length ha.

My mark at school put me in the top 5%. I recently graduated with honors at a top 20 (in the world) university.

I acknowledge that there are many people smarter than me, but I can, without bragging, state that I am smarter than average.

It is definitely a combination of genetics and education. When I was at high school, I simply cruised on my intelligence and did alright. When I came to university, I was surrounded by people whose intelligence ranges from brilliant through to genius. I had to put in a lot of effort to attempt to keep up with them, and I learnt a lot by doing this.

A smart person doesnt judge too quickly... You know, not calling someone an obese 40 year old pervert.

Yay!!!

I maintain that there are different forms of intelligence. You can be a genius musician while not being able to do an algebraic equation.

I'm certainly school smart, but in terms of music, mechanics, and math past calc I'm a complete idiot. (Although I say at suck at math, pre-calculus is still higher average than most high school kids - US ones at least)
