Forums - PC - My soon-to-be Mid range PC rig under $1000 NZD (Specs inside)

Ok, so im sick of watching youtube videos of Shogun 2 total war, BF3, DayZ. I really want to play them. So, in a couple of months, hopefully I would be able to rake money up and get my PC badboy up and running.

Please give your  oppinion:

* CPU --- AMD FX-6100 Six-Core 3.3GHz 14MB Cache Socket AM3+ 95W "Unlocked"

* Motherboard ---Asus/Gigabyte AMD 760G Chipset Socket AM3+ DDR3 Motherboard HD Audio

* Memory --- Transcend 4GB DDR3-1333 Memory (I have thought about having a 16gb RAM, not much games even need 8gb RAM at the moment so yeah)

* Hard Drive --- Seagate /West Digital / 250GB SATA3 Hard Drive (I also though about this too, I dont think i'll need play too much games, the only games that I fancy are ARMA 2 : CO DayZmod, Rome 2 total war, Medieval 2 total war, Shogun 2 TW)

* DVD Writer --- SATA 22x Speed Optical DVD Writer (I would down grade this DVD drive as much as I could, if I could)

* PC Case --- Gigabyte High Quality Black GZ-M2 MATX Case, 500W Large Fan PSU

* Video Card ---Radeon HD 6750 or 6780

* Audio --- 8 -Channel High-Definition Audio

* Network --- RTL8211CL Gigabit LAN

* USB Port --- 2 Front USB, 4 Rear USB

* OS --- Windows 7 Home Premium Version (64bit) with disc and COA

All under $1000 NZD after an extensive re-search. Convert it to USD then its even cheaper. Range on this mid range badboy is about 900-750 NZD (depends on CPU, RAM, GPU, HDD choice).

What do you guys think I should change? PLEASE, I need your oppinions.

It sounds a bit weak for that money. Not sure how much 1k New Zeeland Dollars is but if it's near US Dollars then that clearly is too much for a fairly weak system.

Basic estimation. 1000 NZD = 850 USD

I really want your oppinion on what I should change.

Yay!!!

That's about £500, same price as mine. I would recommend an i7 2600k/i5 2500k, at least 8gb RAM and go for the 7770. And 500gb hd. I initially was only gonna use my PC for a few games like you, but after only 2 months of use 120gb are used, you may as well go big in areas like memory and storage because doubling the numbers is so cheap.

1000 nzd is 800 usd

Nahh dude, Im pretty much a living and breathing console gamer. Im not an avid buyer aswell. Anyway, do I really need an unlocked CPU, I mean, I dont intend to overclock as it shortens life.  i5 2500? Is that ok? I base my specs on the future mark spectrum.

Yay!!!

It's a bit hard to say when I don't get a good idea of the amount of the total price. Are those 1000 NZD with taxes included?

I think your CPU is fine and perhaps even the 4GB RAM since you're going for the absolute cheapest possible comp which still has a gaming profile.

So it's about the GPU. How much is the 7770 over there? And for how much can you get a 7850 and a 7950?

The GPU should be at least 25% of the total cost of that system or else it's underpowered. Ideally the GPU should be up to 35% of total cost for best bang for your buck.

Example.

I think your system with a Radeon 7770 (120 Euros) would be 600 Euros here in my country.

Switch the GPU to a 7850 (220 Euros)and the system becomes 700 Euros but 50% faster in gaming.

Switch the GPU to a 7950 (320 Euros) and the system becomes 800 Euros but twice as fast.

if your going cheap 6850 or 6870 give best bang for a buck or if you can find a 6950 2 gig for under 200 usd equivalent. out side of that the 7xxx series is in for a big series of price fluxes with 7950 and 7970 being dropped in price to make room for the new version of each which AMD is saying will not replace the non ghz edition should drive prices of the others all down which might make the 7850 under 200 and a steal

the cpu will hurt your gaming a bit. id try and go with an i5 if you can swing it. if not a fx 4170 and oc it

ram is dirt cheap right now 4-8 gb 1600 or better ddr3

case, what ever suits your fancy i have 3 at home a corsair 550d,a silverstone Temjin TJ08-E, and on the cheaper end an antec 300 illusion.

power supplies seasonic, or corsair (seasonic makes most of theirs ) and modular is a must it makes things so much easier

after market cpu coolers: coolermaster hyper 212+ with a second fan rocks

and an SSD boot drive either 128gb or 256 i would recommend having used both either a samsung 830 or crucial m4
