Why are Umbrella (or anyone else for that matter) still developing deadlier viruses?

With a stupid amount of the world's population by the T-Virus or a veriant of it, maybe it's time someone said "okay...you know what? Maybe we should really stop this."

What exactly is the endgame they are hoping for? I'm gonna say it stopped being about money a long time ago because the world is just too screwed up. But yet, they keep going, what's the deal?

These farmaceutical companies make insane amounts of money.

Their shareholders are all dead or infected, so they have nothing else to do than put all that money into R&D.

Right...but surely a cure is needed now more than ever.

Which would you pay more for? A cure for zombies or yet another zombie varient?

Having never played the series and yet knowing something about it, isn't Wesker trying to make some sort of higher life-form? Wasn't that what he was attempting to do (or succeeded in doing? I'm unclear on that) with Jill in RE5? The Oroboros virus or whatever it's called?

Edit: the point being that it was never about business in the first place, but just covering for some sort of evolutionary plot?

I'm not up on Resident evil plot I admit so anything I say is not rock solid but

I assumed, That was Wesker's own personal goal and now that he's no longer in play, surely things can calm down...right...?

Well maybe things are so messed up some people are trying to take an opportunity to develop a super weapon in order to take over the world/create the only safe place. Of course the history of such a bio weapons coming back to bite you would suggest it is never going to happen. One of the higher ups probably has a zombie fetish.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

its just a metaphor of capcom doing stupid things over and over like a virus, no one in capcom ever thought.
"okay...you know what? Maybe we should really stop this, fans are pissed!" then they suddenly turn to zombies and be like "LETS RELEASE THE DLCS TO PISS THEM OFF MORE!"

Oswald Spencer wanted to become a God like entity using Umbrella's creations. That ambition got transferred to Wesker. At least this is RE5s explanation of everything. I prefer to think that they just created too many bioweapons at once, all of which backfired.
