Forums - Sony - VGC is too critical of Sony

But games like Resident Evil, Kid Icarus or Gravity Rush deserve their 40$ price tag. They are on par with console games and already cost 20$ less. Getting these games at 10$ would obviously be nice but they would not have the same quality and polish that they have now.

I am also in the boat that thinks $60 is too much for a console game.

Also, do you have a smartphone capable of gaming? If so, you would be very surprised at the level of polished and quality games to be found. Here is a good example.

Chaos Rings 2 - $17.99

Dead Trigger - $0.99

There are plenty more. It is also a common mistake when people think that iPhone/Android games lack polish, content, etc... just because they are much less expensive. This is not the case at all.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

I'm worried about the Vita. But the PS3 launched late & expensive into a market where the 360 had already taken a huge chunk of the market. And it took a couple of years, but the PS3 certainly found its footing. I'm hopeful the Vita will do exactly the same.

The PS Vita simply isn't doing as well as it was expected to be doing, and the charts indicate that it might take a while before it really takes off.

Japan launch price:

PS3: 49,900-59,900 yen

Vita: 24,900-29,900 yen

Double.

Japan launch games:

PS3:

Title Publisher
BLAST·FACTOR Sony Computer Entertainment Japan
Kidou Senshi Gundam: Target In Sight Bandai Namco Games
Ridge Racer 7 Bandai Namco Games
Miyazato San Kyoudai Naizou: SEGA GOLFCLUB Sega
Resistance: Jinrui Botsuraku no Hi Sony Computer Entertainment Japan
Genji: Kamui Souran Sony Computer Entertainment Japan

Only the dreamcast was worse... probably.

Vita:

Browser Sangokushi Touch Battle
Project N.O.E.L.S.
Fish On
Dynasty Warriors Musou Next
Shinobido II
Power Smash 4
Uncharted: Golde Abyss
Hot Shots Golf 6
F1 2011
Dream Club
Disgaea 3: Return
Katamari no Biita
Shin Kamaitacho no Yoru
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Yuusha no Kiroku
Dark Quest
Lord of the Apocalypse
Michael Jackson Experience HD
NicoNico Douga
Sawari Makuuru
Ridge Racer
Monster Radar

Said by many as the greatest of all time.

And it's doing worse?  The internet is mean for most things. Imagine how mean it can be for things that clearly are not good.

As long as vita doesn't have the same piracy issue as the PSP had, it will do fine in the long run.

huh?

when the PS3 launched it was the successor to the most popular console of all time and the 360 had a userbase of 5m.

the PSV launches as a successor to a handheld that did well but it is now up against the scuccessor to the most populat handheld of all time and comes out at a a time when that other handheld has a userbase of 15m more...

Its over, seriously it is

lmao what's over?

Sony fans ability to say ohhh look at Vita sales on the damn internet, I wouldn't count that as much of a loss

I see a lot of people saying how the PS3 found it's footing (In regard to Japan) after a while. However honestly that wouldn't be enough for the Vita.

People forget that this generation in Japan all the consoles underperformed. The PS3 eventually found it's footing and managed 8 million units. It is still 4million behind the wii. Not only this but even the Wii didn't do very well compared to last gen. Compare them to the PS2 at 23.5m versus 12.5m and 8.3m respectively for wii and PS3. Even compared to the original playstation at 19.4m both underperformed.

If the vita got a similar boost as the PS3 did and say ended up around 7 million it would be a disaster for a major handheld. It doesn't need to get a PS3 style boost. It needs a much bigger boost.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

My comment wasn't directed towards Japan, unfortunately.  My understanding (probably wrong) of how Japanese culture is at the minute is that they enjoy their gaming on handhelds, so I'm not surprised that the PS3 under-sold there.  It found its footing elsewhere in the world (particularly Europe) is what I was going for, as well as finding its footing in the sense of 'it recovered from a horrible, horrible launch'.

I have no idea if the Vita will do okay in Japan, because all I know that could help it sell is Monster Hunter and we're not seeing that any time soon.
