Forums - Gaming - I am going to make a BOLD prediction for call of duty's release

I think this may be the tipping point for the CoD franchise.

In other words, I look for Black Ops 2 not to outsell Modern Warfare 3 -- especially if there is no WiiU version (which is still not officially confirmed). There were more than 1M Wii sales for that title -- and it has never gone down in price (unlike the higher selling versions on the HD consoles).

(For what it is worth, four of the five MW's on Wii sold 1M. Only MW3 failed to reach that -- perhaps because there was no MW2 on Wii. CoD3 sold over 2M.

Wiiu version was in an issue of nintendo Power right?

Me prediction is that your prediction is wrong.

People will always be interested in CoD, it's the sad truth.

Just like they were always interested in Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero?

It's going to decline eventually, wouldn't be surprised if it's BO2 that starts it (will still sell a fuckton), which is sad because it's the first COD in a while to step away from the established formula and try something new.

I doubt BO2 will not sell to the caliper of the others.

It'll decline, but it'll take forever.

How long is forever in your eyes? 4 years? 5 years? 10 years? It will be interesting to see if CoD will make the leap to next gen that Tony Hawk appeared to be incapable of doing.

I think CoD will sell good no matter what. In fact I will probably buy this one (did not buy the last one), especially for zombies. I think BO is a bigger seller then MW would be if they both released on same day.

Not gonna happen. 360 version is >150% of PS3 in total preorders and >200% of PS3 for last week's preorders.

It might be closer than usual, but it won't outsell it.

Edit: Oh yeah, that's just preorder data for USA, not world. I still don't think it'll happen though.

Didnt COD kick the last Halo's ass??

black ops sold 4 million more than Halo Reach, however, halo was released about 2 months before black ops. Halo 4 is being released a week before BO2, that is why i think it will slow cod sales

Your not exactly supporting your arguement here. Halo Reach had two months to claim as the FPS sales leader and still ended up selling less than BO when all is said and done. Now Halo 4 will only have a single week before being pushed down the charts by BO2. Out of the two games at hand, Halo benefits the least from its schedule where as Cod, well...it doesn't really matter who gets in the way it'll still make a billion dollars its first week.

i wasnt gonna say anything, thanks for saving me the trouble

Does everyone just expect the WiiU to sell 50 million consoles this holiday? Cod for the WiiU will be nowhere close to the xbox360 or ps3

You really believe that millions of people are waiting for the Wii U version?? You think people are going to buy a whole new console just to play COD, a game that can already be played on the console of their choice?? The game would have to be MUCH better on Wii U for that to happen.  Im not even going to get into the MASSIVE online community that those games have on both consoles. Few will sure, I when i say few, i mean a couple thousand. maybe even a mil tops

I recommend that you go and have a look at my first post, that led to that particular tangent of discussion. I'm pretty explicit about what I said. And "the console of their choice" is a stupid thing to say, because unlike a lot of people on the internet, most regular gamers actually don't have a bias for or against a particular company or platform.

Maybe I've word it wrongly, but what I ment to say is, and you recognized it, that people play CoD because it's multliplayer yet we know almost nothing about WiiU's online, not the game but the system.

And since WiiU's online is still a mystery, the majority will pre-order the game for their existing console, console that their friends probably also have and that use to play online together.

Now, is it possible that some of those people change their pre-order if there is a WiiU version that is better than the PS360 one AND the system's online is good enough? Sure. But not many.

The games don't release until November. Information about the Wii U version (and the online of the system in general) is expected in August. As I said, I don't think many have decided on the Wii U version... but I do think that many are waiting to see what the Wii U version looks like before putting money down on their PS3/360 choice, for no other reason than that they can be confident that, once their money is down, they *will* get a copy at launch - and therefore waiting does no harm.

That the Wii U's online is a mystery at the moment is only a reason to wait. It could be the best system. It could be no better than the Wii. We don't know. And people often like to know before making their decision.

To be honest i sorta agree with you, but i think its gonna come down to halos marketing and the amount of hype they can build up between now and november.
Cod is still gonna sell out but with AC3 and halo 4 coming out back to back before COD is gonna make a lot of younger people budgets tight to be able to afford all 3 and if they are only interested in Halo or CoD , theyre gonna have to choose between the 2 and what they think their friends are gonna be playing the most.
If microsoft can market halo a lot and put out great trailers and advertisements i believe its possible cod's sales are gonna take a hit because of it.
