Forums - Nintendo - I was at Gamestop for about 10 minutes, and the amount of people interested in New Super Mario Brothers 2 astounded me

I hate Mario but I loved all those golden coins in the E3 presentation. This will probably become my first Mario game (apart from the Mario that was bundled with my N64). Plus my girlfriend loves Mario.

How can you hate Mario if you've never really owned one for yourself?

mario has always been a big seller. a mere 10M would be something of a flop for mario.

it will be interesting if this can generate the kind of sustained 3DS sales in the west people were expecting the 3DS to sell.

Yea its gonna be pretty crazy I don't think it will sell as well as the ds one but I hope it ca reach 20 million.

It'a like being surprised that people are excited for the next Call of Duty. It's inevitable.

Yea this is one of those scenarios where the internet and real life are at complete odds.

Interwebz: Another Mario game? What the frig Nintendo? There's been like 15 Mario games in 2 years. Give us a new IP.

Real life: Another Mario game? OM NOM NOM NOM NOM.

It's more that I hate the character than the games, I think. The character and perhaps the setting and atmosphere around it. Whenever I try a Mario game I am put off after 10 minutes or so.

It's been like this since the coin-op Arcades in the '80s. For me the coin-op platformers where quality while Mario was that bad game people had in their home consoles (NES). And that association has stuck. Despite coin-op being long gone and every new Mario being hugely praised.

Does this sound stupid?

I was at gamestop yesterday and I was the only one looking at 3DS games. :(

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

It sounds very... self-aware.

Hmm yet mario was in one of the biggest arcade games of all time (donkey kong) and the original Mario Bros game (not 'super') was originally an arcade machine before the nes even existed...so, yeah, that is weird logic (to me, as someone who was also alive and kicking back in the day), but, hey,  we all have our things.
