Forums - Gaming - More PS3 fans buy digital content than 360 gamers (UK)

... Oh dear. Fuzzy survey is fuzzy.

Well firstly on the title of the thread - That needs changing to relatively more PS3 fans buy digital content in the Uk than 360 fans.

The survey has been very rounded with figures as;
Using Vgchartz 17% of UK ps3 owners = 850,000
Whereas for xbox360 11% of Uk owners=871,000
Now given that they just give round figures of 11 and 17% there is I believe a possibility that Ps3 owners buying DC could be higher if it was 17.4% versus 10.5%. But if that is the case it should probably use figures to one decimal point. As others using the figures they gave it makes them look silly for saying more.

I also have to VERY strongly question the data that only half a million people have bought DLC and that only 1million people have bought a digital game. Especially since for the digital game it doesn't state only on PS3 and 360. So is this including PC, Mobile phone, wii data etc? Even as just 360 and PS3 I would say there is no way only 1 million out of the 13million consoles have bought a digital game. Especially given that would mean in comparison 7million+ people would have bought a tv show or film on their PS3/360.

Even if it is just consoles I would say 1million out of 21.5million is impossible. If it is consoles + smart phones + PC etc then impossible.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

only 1m people have paid for a digital game?.... what utter bollocks.

and only 0.5m people have paid for DLC

who the hell are these people... that must be way off.

First off, it says that "a further .5 million have paid for DLC", which means that 1.5 million people have paid for DLC.

Secondly, I don't see why it is so hard to believe that only 1 million people in the UK have bought a digital game.  It's not like the UK is that huge a market.

It's also worth pointing out that retail v digital prices on the PS3 in the UK weigh heavily in the favour of buying at retail. Games go on PSN for £49.99 when they're sub £30 at online retailers...

That is because it is on a Uk site so doesn't need to specify the region. Is vgchartz a Uk site now? =p

I thought MS didn't release download figures. I smell bs here.

seems legit to me. People are overrating digital distribution for consoles anyway. I don´t think so many people are willed to download a 30GB game, if they have a 60 or 120GB HDD. And DLC seems a much bigger deal in USA then in Europe. Only one person I know has payed for DLC except of myself of course.

Out of hundred of games available, at most five games are more than 20GB. Probably more than ninety percent of games are less than 2GB.

This basically means, the most retail games are not available for download. I knew that, and this just confirms the numbers in the OP.

While this is true, as someone who has bought 100+ psn games, I have to say that this applies chiefly to new releases. I bought Dante's Inferno for £6,5 (same for Mini Ninjas) and Darksiders for £5,5. I also bought tons of psp games that were on sale (about £3 each, including FF games and Monster Hunter Unite), as well as Pixel Junk games for less than a quid each. I even bought some Vita games (such as Littlle Devaints for £8, while the cheapest availble online is £12)

Sure, most items are more expensive than retail, but there are tons of exceptions/special offers.

would be great to know how they got the data. i remember a funny story when a former math prof of mine told us about a survery he read in a magazine about universities. it was about a lot of different things. then he saw something about the university (which said it is bad there) and he thought it can't be true because he was on some universities and in his opinion this university was the best of all for that. he then called the magazine to ask how they did the survey and they said they asked students how they think about that. when he asked how many they asked on this university the magazine responded "we asked two students" looooool, so maybe one of both said "it's bad" haha

I'm really surprised by that. Personally I've bought way more digital stuff on 360. Maybe MS points are putting potential buyers off....

Still do wonder if that 17% figure includes stuff you can download for 'free' on PS Plus.

I think this is totally related to the fact microsoft practices criminal bordering prices.

I mean... skyrim for 70 euros on Xbox live... why would anyone get that when you can buy its for 50 euros on a regular shop.

PSN has alot better deals.
