That is frikkin' hilarious and definitely not aimed at little girls or even people under 20. I love shows with pop culture references like this. I gotta watch me some ponies.

No the show is aimed at little girls (But enjoyable for most ages and both genders) but as of the second season they have done some things like this for the older crowd who is watching it. This kind of thing doesn't do anything bad for the younger viewers and gives those who are older somthing to look foward to.
Former something....
I wish I wasn't at work so I could link all my posts from the MLP thread since March and show everyone the transitions I went through, hate, refusal, denial, appreciation, then becoming a fan. I still refuse to call myself a brony though.

I'm not the manliest man, I mean, I have little cute animals in my sig. It didn't lake long for me to become a brony

nah, what I meant was that that scene specifically wasn't aimed at the younger set. In fact it might go over the heads of some people who have actually seen The Big Lebowski.
Well, for me, it comes down to this. The show is fun and enjoyable. It's happy, it makes me smile, and it's entertaining. I don't care if other people think I'm less manly for watching it, because their opinion was never relevant to me.
I'm not at all what you would call a small guy. I'm 6'1", fairly muscular, a fairly deep voice, and I tend to be too lazy to shave. I'm also typically a loner, and I don't act out in public. I've been told that I intimidate people that I don't know just by existing. But I still don't care if people find me less manly for watching the show. I like it, I enjoy it, so I'll watch it.
It doesn't hurt that there's lots of cool stuff being made by the fandom. I'm really looking forward to My Little Pony: Fighting is Magic. Why? Because it looks fun. Being free doesn't hurt either, but it looks like a great fighting game. There's also plenty of music that is of a surprisingly great quality, and I have enjoyed much of the artwork that people make.
Edit: I should clarify, in case anyone misinterprets what I mean. When I say I don't care what people think of me for watching it, I mean I honestly don't care. I don't watch it to be different, or to stand out. I watch the show because of what I said before; it's fun, enjoyable, happy, entertaining, and it makes me smile.

The show has a lot of great references like this 1978 Incredible Hulk Lonely Man reference:

Now why a "girls" show is another question that I cant begin to fathom why grown men like that. Now I want to be delicate here.....but lets just say I think if your a grown men watching My Little Pony......it would be relatively safe to predict that their quality of life may not be as high as the average adult. |
For grown men to question those who find it enjoyable is an indicator of a lack of maturity, now

This will go nowhere. People like what they like I suppose. But ill still answer your question. Intended demographics (age and gender), media, and aesthetic is what separates for me. With Big Bang theory, its very sex references you claim to be immature are still intended for at the very least people in high school. I think sex references shouldnt be intended for children at all. Completely unrealistic depictions? Its a comedy show.....and kinda funny coming from someone who watches a show about talking colorful ponies :P I guess well leave it at this. agree to disagree. |
Sorry to double-post, it's what i get for coming late to the party i suppose, but anyway...
I believe Soleron's point is that the kind of jokes often made in the Big Bang Theory are the type of purile crap me and my idiot friends were laughing about in 5th and 6th grade. Now, i myself happen to like Big Bang Theory a fair bit, but certainly not for its constant barrage of "lol nerdz can't get laid" jokes.

Why do adults watch Pixar or Dreamworks movies? Sure, they've got a cute and cuddly aesthetic that reaches out to young ones with ease, but the writing, animation, and subtle references are enough to entertain adults as well. It's this brand new concept known as "all ages entertainment."
I'm sure the show STARTED as just for kids, but all of Lauren Faust's shows apparently meshed will with an adult demographic. There's nothing wrng with a show that's easily enjoyable by kids but cleverly written enough that adults can enjoy it, too.
This is actually sexism...a young boys show wouldn't get nearly the amount of ire a little girls show does...if it's a show for young boys, then no biggie, whatever..but a little girls show? We're all creepy perverts or whatever. Sexism as its most subtle, boys and girls!
