Yes. And that has what to do with demographics?

They actually don't have the same style.
Let's say we get a Mario Tennis, NSMB, and a... Mario Kart in the span of a year or so. That's perfect! They all have different play styles and characters.
But, when we get two 2D Mario's that is when it gets ridiculous. (Ala, this year with NSMBU and NSMB2.)

What a game is about doesn't have anything to do with who it appeals too?
You said Mario and LBP have practically the same appeal, LBP is all about what Mario isn't. (creativity and user-generated content). The only thing they have in common is being a platformer...

I think Mario started sucking this gen, Sunshine is one of my fave game but I never liked the Galaxy games and they milk the franchise, 9 Mario games in 2 years is exaggerating too much.

People on Vgchartz make me cringe. So if I dislike Nintendo and Mario games I'm jealous of their success and I'm a hater? Not the case, some people take gaming far too seriously, I just don't care. I loved Mario games when I was 5-10, however they've been the same regurgitated games for as long as I can remember and I've outgrown them.
I dislike Nintendo for their focus on children orientated low-budget games and the fact they have only created one noteworthy new IP (Smash Bros) in the last 20 years, they just remake the same old games over and over again and milk the one truly successful IP they have, Mario, which is why people are getting bored of that character and franchise. I don't hate Nintendo and Mario for the sake of hating, I genuinely wish I did love them because the more things I find appealing the more things I can enjoy.
I'd say children love Mario because he's a generic little friendly plumber, the games have no story to pay attention to and the games are easy to pick up and play, they don't sell so well because they are in any way shape or form better than games like God of War, Gears of War, Uncharted, Heavy Rain, Halo, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Alan Wake, infamous etc. It's simply for the fact Mario is the must buy game for parents to buy their young children to play (of course there are older Mario fans too but I think they're a minority) and Nintendo puts all their effort in making Mario huge unlike Sony or Microsoft who have so many great IPs to support that they can't put so much effort into just one IP, although Microsoft have done a great job with Halo and Gears of War and Sony did a good job with Uncharted and Gran Turismo (No I didn't forget about God of War, Sony just haven't bothered to make any effort to market it so the games had to sell themselves).
Just to put it out there, I actually still own a Gamecube and a Wii. They were given to me as gifts from someone who obviously doesn't know me so well and I couldn't sell them because that would make me look like an ungrateful bastard, that said I wish they'd just given me money instead...

It can, but in this instance the demographics clearly match up, so it's entirely moot.

Sure, it's not a new IP, I do notice the "3" in the title, but it's fairly new and hasn't had countless predeccessors, or it's main character(s) hasn't stared in countless other games. OT: Personally, I just find Mario completely uninteresting, and I can't see why anyone over the age of 12 doesn't feel the same unless they're just nostalgic. Nintendo doesn't seem to be doing anything meaningful (to the gamer) with the Character, he's pretty just a money-maker. E.g. What does Mario have to do with Tennis? Something like Super Mario Galaxy could of been a new IP, but it was a Mario game because they played it safe and knew it would sell a ton. Now, that's a great business decision, but for someone like me, seeing Mario plastered across the title of a gazilion different games is tiresome. |
It is quite annoying to see Mario "plastered" on almost everything. Even many Nintendo Fans feel Mario needs more breaks between titles. (Like Mario games only 2-4 times a year depending on a new console release.)
Btw, Mario Galaxy Series was thought up to be a Mario Game. That's what they wanted and decided it to be.

Yeah, I just feel like having so many studios work on Mario games like Mario Tennis is wasted potential and talent.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you're getting at. What can?
