Why do people hate on Mario?

People on Vgchartz make me cringe. So if I dislike Nintendo and Mario games I'm jealous of their success and I'm a hater? Not the case, some people take gaming far too seriously, I just don't care. I loved Mario games when I was 5-10, however they've been the same regurgitated games for as long as I can remember and I've outgrown them.

I dislike Nintendo for their focus on children orientated low-budget games and the fact they have only created one noteworthy new IP (Smash Bros) in the last 20 years, they just remake the same old games over and over again and milk the one truly successful IP they have, Mario, which is why people are getting bored of that character and franchise. I don't hate Nintendo and Mario for the sake of hating, I genuinely wish I did love them because the more things I find appealing the more things I can enjoy.

I'd say children love Mario because he's a generic little friendly plumber, the games have no story to pay attention to and the games are easy to pick up and play, they don't sell so well because they are in any way shape or form better than games like God of War, Gears of War, Uncharted, Heavy Rain, Halo, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Alan Wake, infamous etc. It's simply for the fact Mario is the must buy game for parents to buy their young children to play (of course there are older Mario fans too but I think they're a minority) and Nintendo puts all their effort in making Mario huge unlike Sony or Microsoft who have so many great IPs to support that they can't put so much effort into just one IP, although Microsoft have done a great job with Halo and Gears of War and Sony did a good job with Uncharted and Gran Turismo (No I didn't forget about God of War, Sony just haven't bothered to make any effort to market it so the games had to sell themselves).

Just to put it out there, I actually still own a Gamecube and a Wii. They were given to me as gifts from someone who obviously doesn't know me so well and I couldn't sell them because that would make me look like an ungrateful bastard, that said I wish they'd just given me money instead...
