Mario is the opposite of generic...

in terms of gameplay? no mario isnt generic. in terms of story, charecters, story telling, art style and music mario is the most generic game in the world, why? because the same thing has been used for the 30 years. honestly mario has the WORST story in video games now days. i feel sad for you if you think otherwise

WRONG!  Story maybe for some Mario games, as there really isn't a story in most of them, but art style has changed a LOT throughout its lifetime and rarely is same.  They reinvent the graphics style with almost every mario release, and the music may stay the same on many of them, but some of them introduce completely new music.  So I think you're biased against Mario in that you only listen to what you hear people saying about the game without looking it into yourself.  You cloud your own judgement in such ways.

why am i baised? why would i be baised against a game that literally was a huge part of my childhood? why would i be baised against a game i love? im not, but you just dont seem to understand my agruement, i wrote a hole post about how the franshise hasnt matured, but you havent replied to any of that, you just called me baised. and not having a story suddenly is a good thing? im not the one clouding my judgement, you are. just listen to my arguement then reply accoridng to it

I did reply to your argument.  You said Mario is the most generic game and listed reasons why you think so, and I countered it by saying you were wrong on those points.  The game changed fundamentally in all those reiterations throughout those years, and one of the only things that link them together is either the genre or the fact that Mario is in it.

they are generic because are based on cliches, can be replaced easily and have little to no appeal to the people that are not biased,
talking about sales and MArio?

Because Nintendo overuses Mario as a lever to make cash. They release a Mario game every three or six months (regardless of the genre) while barely renewing them. Microsoft makes a Halo once a year or so (which is already very frequent), Sony releases Uncharted every 2 two years, 1 or 2 Gran Turismo per gen.

How could core gamers who heavily favor mature games not feel frustrated when they see a manufacturer put so much emphasis on a series that is aimed at everyone (not to say to a much younger public). Look, here on French TV 3DS ads are ALL about Mario 3DLand! Where is Resident Evil Revelations? Why do we have to wait until 2013 to play Fire Emblem? Why is Beyond the Labyrinth not coming to the West? If Mario is hated, it's because he's at the forefront of that casual orientation Nintendo has taken those past years.

Why that bothers you? I mean, the "hate" comes from internet forums? or some friends?

The funny thing is that they hate a lifeless videogame character and the reasons sounds even more idiotic.

"based on cliches" WAT

"can be replaced easily" WAT

"little to no appeal to the people that are not biased" WAAAAAAT. xD What does that even mean?

And yes, sales and Mario? I said that Mario sells really well, or at least implied it, and that's why Ninty slaps his name on so many games. What's your point?

firstly this is all a mater of opinion i should mention this. secondly in terms of story? no its simply the same, how is it defferent?people here been saying it doesnt have any story defending mario that way, i guess it proves my point.  the worlds are different and it would be stupid to call mario generic in that way, really stupid. but going on to charecters? come on not even nintendo can state that they arenet generic. art style, the graphics are different from one another but you can spot a mario game directly when looking at a screen even if you never played it before, the models and texutres have the same direction as the games before it, understand the worlds are vastly different and look extremely different but the direction of the art is still the same. as for sound its still the same you cant argue about that. also story telling and story are VERY DIFFERENT you might have an awesome story but tell it in a crappy way and you might have a crappy story but tell it in an awesome way and make it sound good. mario has both bad story telling and a bad story

lol, thats funny, cause i feel the same with all the magnificent new IPs Sony and Msoft brought this gen, not interesting at all, and generic to the limit, with characters full of cliches and bad design choices (Marcus, Master chief, Drake, all of them really boring and generic)
Mario its just an excuse to pull some amazingly well balanced gameplay...

I was speaking from my point of view, not for everyone else, you should probably do the same unless you want to look like an idiot. And I didn't call Mario generic.

Anyway, I'll respond to what you said...

So you mean those generic new IPs like LittleBigPlanet or Heavy Rain?

I really don't see how God of War or Uncharted are generic franchises. I find it extremely odd that you'd call Nathan Drake a generic character, I mean how many wise-cracking treasure hunters are there in video games? He's the only one as far as I can tell. And how many ancient greek Gods are there in video games? What other games are like God of War? What cliches? Have you even played an Uncharted or GOW game?

It's fine if you think the characters are boring, but there are millions that disagree with you so please don't state it as fact. Remember that's your opinion, like I did with Mario.

Nathan Drake is a generic character who literally has no special abilities or features. He's just a selfish man who puts his friends in danger and kills a ton of people for treasure. He can't fly, shoot fireballs, or travel through time. He usings guns as his main weapon like pretty much every new character today. His platforming is nothing new and is just a copy of the Prince of Persia series. Mario's been wall kicking since 96 and can far outjump and is much more acrobatic then Nathan Drake.

As far as treasure hunters go. Wario is a treasure hunter and has been doing so far longer then Nathan Drake. Link is also a treasure hunter.

God of War is just a more voilent version of Devil May Cry.

To clarify I don't think Nathan Drake is boring just generic. He's just another Hollywood action hero like character who weve seen tons of time before in movies.

read what i wrote, has nothing to do with what you said.

Was Significant replying to you, or myself (who started the thread)?  What Significant wrote fits fully with what I wrote.

Thank you! Thanks for actually expressing an opinion well and explaining it(.Not that I agree) My problem with this other dude is he just seems to be almost mindlessly bashing games based on his butthurt feelings over my opinion on Mario.
