Forums - Gaming - Worst Gaming Inventions & Innovations in Recent Years

The absolute worst, in no particular order...

-Region Locking
-Online Passes
-Paid DLC (for any game you paid for IN FULL at upwards of $60 (or more for collector's editions))
-$60 retail price tier for all new games, regardless of their budget, size, length, features, etc.
-DRM of any kind
-Being forced to pay to play X360 games online
-Console subscription plans (example: X360 at $99 w/ overpriced 2yr contract)
-Paying more to download a game than buy it at a retail outlet
-The lack of overall promotion of Indie games on any given platform (IMH the most creative games this gen)
-No new companies attempting to enter the console race

EDIT

-The utter lack of Free-To-Play gaming on consoles

EDIT

-3D gaming

The region locking of the 3DS wasn't done for profits on games, it was done to make sure people don't evade the parental lock. Ratings of games differ from country to country. Buying a game from another country that would have been rated 18+ in the USA may be 13+ in Japan.

PS.
Game Boy, Atari Lynx, Game Gear, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, PSP, and Nintendo DS are all region-free. As is PS3 and the newly released PS Vita.

I see what you did there.  You pretty much said "I hate Wii and 3DS."

So you are saying Nintendo started to love money after they released their DS so then they made it Region Locked?

They always loved money. That's why they invented region-locking back in the days of the NES. Until now they just weren't so greedy as to region-lock even their handheld systems. Or sell power supply units separately.

Selling those Power Units is a great idea to keep cost down!
