Forums - General - whats the point of locking theads?

where do you stand?

They should only lock extreme threads? 3 33.33%

Lock whatever. 6 66.67%

They shouldn't lock anything. 0 0%

If the thread sucks it will die off on it's own. I don't see a point in locking a thread unless it's straight advertising for something like Doritos or a hate thread that shouldn't be posted anyway. So do you see a point of locking threads if it doesn't do any of these things?

This thread is about a thread that I  posted hours ago that was basically a morphing thread. It would change to push up posts, however I posted that it would have to be interesting, here I will just post a link below. So tell me, am I just being a sally? or are you sick of this type of action?

My thread that was locked - http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=144735&page=1#

If a thread is pointless/shit meaning it lacks any decent content or all the discussion there has devolved into arguments and bashing then it should be locked. This is so it doesn't keep getting booted to the front page or hot topics page.

They're like little pieces of heaven!

it was not pointless, it was about morphing the thread. Post in it when other threads where boring as sh-t. So you could look in there and see if the conversation had hit your fancy. If the thread sucked then it would die it's own death. This is something I think this site needs to be more leanient on. I see this place has a low capacity of fans. This is why. People don't like being locked and pushed around about pointless rules. I agree with the bashing and arguments but it seems most article's have arguments, actually all the time. So what the dif?

You better have not got this thread locked. LOL. It was funny though.

Most threads that get locked should be locked though.

If you remake your thread and call it 'the random discussion thread' or something then it would probably be allowed. The name you had for it directly clashed with the rules regarding spamming, but a new title and you should be fine.

Sorry but that was the worst thread Ive ever seen. "push up your posts"?? You can just spam every hot topic, you dont need a spam thread for that.

I think that the problem with your locked thread was the focus on post increase.

If you named it something like "The Daily/Weekly Discussion Thread" (and kept it updated with new topics, which was your plan all along) mods would probably have been fine with it.

Edit: Looks like MBP beat me to it.
