I think what the OP is illustrating is that the iPad must be docked in a real computer to do many of the things people need to do. The Surface is a real computer. It's a tablet and a PC at the same time. The surface isn't limited by anything, it's a PC when you need a PC and a tablet when you want a tablet.

Pretty much this. What is the point of an iPad when you still have to plug it into a computer? I want my tablet to be a computer.

Yes they do. How else would they sale you an overpriced proprietary cord?

Additionally, iPhone5 is changing that proprietary cord to a new design so you all have to buy another one.

But one comes in the iphone 5 box, so unless you lose it, there's no reason to buy another.
