Forums - Sony - Vita will die without a price cut in 2012

I think that in future will boost, SONY just prefers to sell less and have profit in every unit than go back to take loss in every system. when Vita production cost becomes cheap they drop the price. That's the old strategy that allaways helped Nintendo being profitable in every year

WOW...

you know this makes me worried becasue then when the Vita doesn't fail and continue to receive great support he's gonna turn into one of the why are they supporting Vita people which will get really old really fast >_>

that was the part that didnt make sense to me...
they re selling poorly because of severals factors and thats out of their control right now, at least they are making a (small) profit on each system sold...

hmm the language it's tricky, like just prefers, it's not that it's what they really prefer, it's what they have to deal with, like PS3 they know that in the long run they'll sell.

Making a profit is better than not making a profit anyday. They probably make most of their profit on accessories and memory cards anyway. I'm sure there's a balance between selling consoles, and profit from games and accessories.

OT: A Price cut will probably happen since now the VITA is bundled with a free game which is close enough to a price cut.

It's been few months since it came out and this time of the year is known to have drought in video game industry. Why not give it a holiday then put it in the bin of failure.

I don't think the price of the hardware is the problem. I think that the price of the mandatory Memory Cards and the games is the real problem. The 3DS suffers the same problem with the price of the software.

I don't think "Core" gamers have a Problem paying $40 dollars for Gravity Rush, Resident Evil Revelations or Mario Kart 7. But on Amazon forums I have heard time and time again parents talking about buying a "cheap tablet" to buy "cheap games" for their kids, and that one of the cons of the 3DS is the expensive software.

We can say "yes, but those games are crap compared to the games of the PSV and the 3DS" and I agree. But with those $40 a parent can buy at least 20 games on the Android Market or App Store and keep their kids entertained for a long time. I think the price of the software of the dedicated portable gaming systems needs to be revised if they want to survive.

I agree.

Handheld games should not have gotten anywhere near $40. $15 to $30 would have provided a more acceptable range.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

The PSP launched at 250$ and was considered a success, but that's because of the teenagers. Now teens and young adults have smartphones and tablets and the only people buying handhelds outside of Japan are the small hardcore crowd and little kids whose parents haven't gotten them an iPhone yet. Sony needs to either start marketing towards a younger crowd, or make teenagers think the Vita is cooler than an iPad. Sadly to do that, Sony will actually have to use marketing and I think they hate that.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

The Vita's sales during last Christmas in Japan doesn't exactly fill one with confidence though

It's had a holiday. Infact, it LAUNCHED mid-holiday, and it still never beat the 3DS (I believe after launch week the 3DS was outselling it 5:1 or more)?

As such, doesn't fill you with hope...

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Basing this off of your title:
No, it won't. Vita will, for sure, not sell well but I doubt it'll die in the span of 1 year. That's pretty much impossible. People are still going to want it and it is still going to sell, just not that well. Due to the lack of certain games and price. It can still recover.
