Forums - Nintendo - Why didn't Nintendo make more realistic, violent games for the Wii just to prove 3rd parties wrong?

Because....

Nintendo is stupid. 40 17.47%

The game would have been bad. 8 3.49%

The game would have flopp... 27 11.79%

Third parties still wouldn't care. 81 35.37%

It would damage the Nintendo name. 26 11.35%

Other 47 20.52%

Total:229

I don't think they should make their own "core" titles, maybe just publish more like they did with Eternal Darkness.

1. Of course they have to follow their beliefs
2. Sony and Microsoft dont have 1st party games that outsell 3rd party games
3. Ps360 users believe that, that includes you...

1.) Okay then.

2.) This thread isn't about Sony & Microsoft's 1st party. It's about Nintendo's first party. More spcefically, Nintendo's first party which could entice 3rd parties. Stay on topic.

3.) Again, whether I believe this or not is irrelavent. This is about what 3rd parties believe. Stay on topic.

Sorry Metroid you aren't a core title anymore. Show us more Samus nudity and make space pirates bleed copious amounts of blood and then maybe you can be core again.

(Everyone just forgot about it?)

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

Well, it's not like they can't, it's just that it would be too drastic of a change for them if they don't have the expertise in it. The problem, I would think, is the market itself. Why would Nintendo lump itself into FPS when it is the most competitive genre right now? There is far less competition in action adventure, platformers, party games, RPGs, racing, and casual games. As far as I can tell, Mario has no competition when it comes to platformers, Zelda has some competition with action-adventure(apparently its an ARPG to some people), but if you have no competition in an area, just stick to that and milk it while you can.

Nintendo going into FPS genre would really be them catching up or either innovating, which will be much different than what a 3rd Party would put out. The market is just too competitive, I think, for them to join it, but not saying they wouldn't however. Metroid is still solid and seperates itself heavily from other FPS, but new IPs from Nintendo, I guess it's a wait and see what their other studios put out. We got Xenoblade Chronicles, which is a good core game, so perhaps stronger RPGs will hit the Wii U.

It doesn't have to be a FPS. It could be an adventure game, hack-and-slash game, RPG, racer, etc. As long as it's something 3rd parties could make so to prove to them that they coukd have success.

I'm kind of confused here then. I mean, there is Mario Kart, Zelda, Xenoblade, they've done well, which should be proof enough that 3rd parties can find success in those genres.

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward = best game ever made.

"bad controller imo. imagine playing GTA with the wii mote. or even the game cube controller. it would just be bad. also the wiis market is 5-13 year olds and 25-55 year olds for the most part.
the market for hardcore games is the opposite of what the majority wii marketshare happens to be"

what?
Everything is wrong there...
Wiis market is 5-55 yrs old, the GC controller has nothing wrong for a GTA and alikes (remember True crime?)
hello classic pro controller?

If Nintendo made such a "core" game, it would have been the highest selling "core" game on the system, leading to third parties complaining that Nintendo takes away all the software sales.

But you see, Nintendo anticipated this exact reaction so in their infinite wisdom they decided to make a mediocre "core" game. They even took it a step further and made it so the game wasn't really a core game at all, but rather the kind of game that 3rd parties like to call core.

The result was Metroid Other M, and as we know that game bombed hard, along with Nintendo's intricate plan...

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Publishing 'core' games would be a good idea as well.

They did. Wasn't disaster day of crisis a classic? What about that cyborg hammer game?

we do know of a few "core" titles they were planning on publishing before their respective developers bit the dust. You can't blame Nintendo for that, just like you won't be able to blame them for no ED2 when SK closes..

Yeah I think that would be their best move. Everyone knows Nintendo for their family friendly IP's. Not for their core, realistic or violent games. I think if they published more core titles they would get some exclusive IP's and also protect their image. In my oinion it would ne win/win for them.
