Forums - General - Have you ever completed a marathon 26.2 mile run?

This Sunday I will be participating in my first marathon. I have previously completed a few half-marathons over the last few years but now I believe I am ready to tackle the 26.2 miles.. On the bright side the course is a flat course with no steep hills.

I have no idea how long it will take me to complete the marathon. Hopefully under 5 hours. My best time for the Half Marathon is  1 hour and 58 minutes.

I will let you know what time I completed it in.

Wow no way. I'm still trying to get my 10K under an hour.

I hope to run the first half and build up a buffer and then I can take it easy for the second half of the marathon.

I have heard about the Marathon Wall that is a huge invisible barrier that appears around 21 or 22 mile mark it can prevent you from finishing the race. I hope I do not encounter that dreaded Wall.

holy crap. I have asthma, I can barely run a mile in under 8 minutes without almost dying.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

I completed my first marathon yesterday in 4 hours 30 minutes and 26 seconds.
My time at the half way mark was 1 hour and 52 minutes and 30 seconds.

Sodium depletion resulted in my leg cramps that slowed me down in the second half. I had to walk and jog most of the second half.

With more training I could hopefully improve upon my fitness and stamina. I admit I did not train for the marathon and I thought I could run/jog the whole way.

PB for half marathon by 5 minutes and completion of my first marathon.

Congratulations on getting it finished, hope your happy with your time.

Focusing on the shorter distances will improve you massively, example: 5k for 10k, 10k for 21.1k and 21.1k for the 42.2k. With a solid 5k time, leg pace at the slower paces as distances get further will become really easy.
The best thing to improve is a coach or follow a program. I use to train on my own and got my half down to 1:24:5-something. Then I joined a local club and started training under a coach and 8 months of solid work got down to 1:14:19 and now am training to hopefully crack 1:10.

Never competed in a marathon. Most I've actually been clocked at is 1.6k/1mile in 5:10....3.2k/1.98miles in 11:30... and 10k/6.21miles in 43min...
completing a Marathon is quite the feat, congratulations.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

very nice!

Good luck, I used to run up to 10miles fairly regularly, but never attempted a marathon. Always wanted to. I'm too fat and lazy to even think about it now.

Again, good luck!

Update with your experience, I would love to hear about it.

I just started running a couple weeks ago, and I been doing about 10 mins a mile. If I kept that pace up it would take 4.3 hours :)

Highly doubt I'd keep that pace though :P
