There was something magical about Nintendo's earliest Mario and Zelda games. Something simple. Something pure. Something Nintendo has gotten away from.

Shigeru Miyamoto, the man who led the creation of those first games and is still the chief game design force at Nintendo knows this.

He's noticed that Nintendo's big games have been slow-starters, that it takes ages now for a good Zelda game to become really fun. He knows Nintendo's games are now often gummed up with tutorials. He's not exactly down on Nintendo's games, but if you thought he hadn't noticed what longtime Nintendo fans have noticed, you're wrong.

As a guy who enjoysNintendo in all eras, I gotta say - this is exciting.

Real exciting.

I would definitely support this. As much as I enjoyed Skyward Sword, the opening section did drag on a bit. I get that there will be new players who may need a tutorial of some kind, so make it optional rather than trying to build it into the story, so that those who don't need it can skip it and get on with things.

The early years of the Wii were, in part, an attempt (with the exception a new 2D Mario only came out at the end of 2009)

Good read, balancing the two will be best, while letting the beginning be free of hand-holding and story as much as possible.

Just throw us in there and let us get around.

Problem with the classics is they were harder, brutally harder in many cases. I don't think today's gamers would embrace that. They seem to only want guided experiences. Look at the FPS genre as a whole and its the leading money maker.

The reason being that it's often enough talked about by video game developers that they know of problems, but then they never get around to actually fix them. In other words, actions speak louder than words.

Open your heart.

Let yourself hope.

Which is why they revived Kid Icarus.

I am mildly impressed.

I don't mind having my balls held, but seriously Nintendo needs to stop holding our hands and finally give us the old school difficulty. No mercy. On that note, Nintendo's never been all that great at story telling. Focus on gameplay. That's why the Zelda of late hasn't been up to par because they got caught up in some fanboys' Zelda timeline. The release of official Zelda timeline shows how much little thought they put on it, and it seemed like they were obligated to prove to fanboys there actually is a timeline.
Most of Nintendo's evergreen titles have no depth to their stories.

In addition, venture into genres and territories they haven't completely explored yet; that'll be the true testament of their skills more than anything. It'll show flexibility and they can, in fact, conquer the gaming industry. This will show that not only do they cater to the blue ocean but actually care about the core gamers as well.
FPS as Miyamoto hinted is a start but I'm afraid it may turn out to be Mario Sunshine in First Person.

With this, they now have the chance to do this with the Wii U. Revive old IPs and create new IPs

Writing this got me hungry again, for some odd reason. I'll have me some baozi

Errr, aren't simplistic games what Wii brought back into fashion 6 years ago?

I know it brings up Mario and Zelda, but how many more times do we need Zelda 4 Swords and New Super Mario Bros than once per console?

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

id settle for some GC magic myself
